New to Grow
Hi, I’m Janie Yang — a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW) and bilingual therapist fluent in both English and Hmong. With over eight years of clinical experience across community-based practice, crisis intervention, and outpatient clinical settings, I bring both depth and range to the work I do with clients. My work is especially meaningful with immigrant and refugee populations, where I draw on my cultural background, language access, and clinical training from the University of Saint Thomas to meet clients where they truly are. My experience spans some of the most complex and high-stakes corners of clinical practice, which means I don’t shy away from hard things. Whether you’re navigating trauma, life transitions, family dynamics, or the particular weight of carrying two cultures at once, I offer a space that is grounded, thoughtful, and deeply human. At the same time, the best description of me is, I am a chameleon. I adapt myself as a clinician to your needs, in order to truly meet you where you are at. Therapy with me is a safe space for you to explore and dive into the stress that is affecting you, and my goal is to help create the mold you need for the goals you have. I believe that healing is a journey towards serenity — not perfection, not a fixed endpoint or destination, but a more intentional, peaceful relationship with your own life. If you are ready to start your healing journey, I am willing to help be your navigator.
I believe healing begins when you feel genuinely seen, heard, and understood, not in moments where you feel judged, rushed, or “fixed.” My approach is compassionate, collaborative, and practical. I aim to create a safe, steady space where we can slow things down, make sense of what’s been weighing on you, and build skills that support real, sustainable change. I have a diverse clinical background and bring with me a wealth of knowledge in culturally sensitive practices, trauma-informed and strengths-based approaches. I value honesty, curiosity, and respect for each person’s lived experience, and I tailor therapy to meet you where you are — not where you think you “should” be.
I am a huge advocate for self-regulation - my approach is deeply rooted in the belief that without the skills one needs to manage their thoughts, emotions, and somatic experiences, we cannot dive in to the work that is needed. I provide a lot of psychoeducation for those I work with, so they have a deeper understanding of what is going on behind the scenes, how, and why techniques work, and how to cater skills to them as a unique person.
I work well with individuals who have [complex] trauma and are ready to change the patterns in their life that are not serving them. It is important to have an idea of what you want to work towards, even if you may feel ambivalent. I believe therapy is a space that can be formulated and molded to everyone - as long as you have the courage to be present, we can get the work done in one way or another!
