Hello, I'm Rebecca Zabinski, a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC) in Minnesota. I am originally from New Mexico and met my husband in the United States Air Force. I am a woman veteran and have grown to love Minnesota and everything it has to offer. My approach to therapy is meeting people where they are at and coming up with some goals together so that there is a common focus between us. I have 3 children and love animals. If I am not working, I am doing something outside with my kids, in the garden or with my dogs. I have over 12 years of experience in the counseling world and started my career in the Air Force. I have worked with children ages 5-17 and their families in the school settings. Now, I prefer to work with older teens and adults in all areas of life. My style in therapy is relational and conversational. I prefer to use my cognitive behavior therapy and attachment based techniques in therapy most of the time. Sometimes therapy includes having small goals each week to help build habits that lead to the client's overall goals in therapy. I believe that therapy is a collaborative effort between the client and the therapist and building trust is important to me in a therapeutic relationship. I look forward to connecting with you.
What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?
During the first session, we will talk about why you want to start therapy and come up with a couple of goals together. I will ask you about your family history and anything that may be relevant to our sessions together. The first session will be more of a gathering information and coming up with a plan together for therapy instead of running like a normal therapy session.
Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.
My style is calming and relational. I do like to ask questions that help clients reflect and come up with solutions for themselves. I like to have a focus of the week in mind between sessions to stay on track with our goals together, and will sometimes assign homework if it is relevant. I like open communication and will sometimes clarify what your expectations are for therapy so that I know what you are wanting out of therapy. I will listen and support you unconditionally, but I will also challenge you to think differently about things to help you grow and reflect.
