I am a bilingual therapist that uses a culturally competent lens to empower individuals. I utilize a down to earth, genuine, and caring approach to help clients build resilience, heal from life’s challenges, and unlock their own strengths. My parents came from Cuba in order to open up the doors for me to have what they never had the opportunity to obtain. I am the first person in my family to attend college and to this day the majority of my family does not speak English. My family raised me in a culture where family and relationships are highly valued. I feel very fortunate to have blended cultural values and morals, as this helps me better understand others from different cultures. Are you struggling with crippling guilt and anxiety? Are you caught in a spiral of worry or stress you can’t stop, constantly second-guessing yourself? You feel stuck in the loop of “what ifs”: “what if I fail?”, “what if I lose my job?”, etc. Has owning a business & battling the daily overwhelm of the constant anxious thoughts gotten to be more than you can handle? Are you a first/second gen who is feeling the exhaustion of being the first at everything? You're a tightrope walker, trying to balance others expectations with your own desires. You feel like you’re never “good enough” and are tired of the guilt. Is parenting an overachieving anxious teen leaving you feeling at a complete loss as to how to help them or where to even begin? Hi, I’m Tery, I specialize in anxiety with a special interest/focus in first/ second gen, entrepreneurs, and teens. If you’re looking for a therapist who can relate and will interweave authenticity with a refreshingly no-bullshit, direct approach, then you have come to the right place.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

Starting therapy is very scary and can even feel unnatural. Some may be terrified that they will be expected to open up immediately to a complete stranger. I start with a structured approach, the intake. During the intake, I get an understanding of what you have been experiencing, what you want to achieve, and what your preferences are. By the end of the intake, you will feel more acquainted with my quirky laid-back style. I also utilize a lot of education and teach a variety of coping skills in the beginning. At this point, we can then begin to peel back the more complex layers that have led to where you are today.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

I pride myself on being very attuned to my client’s needs. Clients often tell me during sessions that I am “reading their mind.” I also have an extremely laid-back approach where it will almost feel as if you are just meeting up with a friend each week. Yet, this “friend” will also call you out when needed and will push you to look at things you would rather ignore. I work best with clients that are ready to do the work that comes with therapy. They are those that are open to seeing their own BS as much as their strengths and successes. I can be your biggest cheerleader in one session and your hard ass coach in another. My ideal clients are also individuals willing and able to do the work in between sessions that is necessary for lasting change. I engage best with individuals comfortable with cursing and with giving and receiving feedback so that we can ensure this process is always working for you.
