My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I’ve been using CBT in my practice for the past several years. It works by identifying and changing negative or unhelpful thought patterns and behaviors. The idea is that how we think (cognition), how we feel (emotion), and how we act (behavior) are all connected. By changing negative thought patterns, you can improve emotional responses and change behaviors, which can help manage a variety of mental health issues like anxiety, depression, stress, and even insomnia. CBT is often goal-oriented and structured, with a focus on the present, rather than delving deep into the past. It teaches practical skills for coping with challenges and usually involves exercises or homework between sessions.

Attachment-based

We will focus on understanding and healing the ways early relationships, particularly with caregivers, impact a person’s emotional development and attachment style throughout life. It’s based on attachment theory, which was first developed by British psychologist John Bowlby. The core idea is that the bonds formed in childhood, especially with primary caregivers, shape how individuals perceive and interact with others in relationships as adults. In Attachment-Based Therapy, I (the therapist) will help you explore and process past attachment-related experiences and how these experiences influence current relationships and emotional well-being. It often focuses on repairing or improving attachment patterns that might be dysfunctional or insecure, like anxious or avoidant attachment styles, which can arise from inconsistent or neglectful caregiving in childhood.

Compassion Focused

When using this therapeutic approach, I blends elements of cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) with practices and concepts rooted in compassion, mindfulness, and evolutionary psychology. The primary goal is to help you develop self-compassion and compassion for others, which in turn can improve emotional regulation, reduce shame and self-criticism, and promote psychological well-being.

Trauma Informed Care

I recognize the widespread impact of trauma on individuals, and it seeks to create an environment of safety, trust, and empowerment for those who have experienced it. The basic idea is that trauma is not just something that happens in the past—it has ongoing effects on a person’s emotional, mental, and physical well-being, and those effects should be acknowledged and respected in any caregiving or therapeutic context. The goal of trauma-informed care is to avoid retraumatizing and to help heal by integrating an understanding of trauma into every aspect of the care process.
