Melita Wilson-Primus is my name. I have Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse board certification. I have worked with patients of all ages undergoing acute psychiatric crises over the last six years of my ten years as a registered nurse. I assist people with depression, anxiety disorders, drug abuse, PTSD, schizophrenia, and a host of other problems in making decisions that will lead to a more satisfying life. I consider every client to be an individual, not just their illness. I provide evidence-based, client-centered, culturally competent, holistic care that is supported by clinical expertise. I can collaborate with clients to accomplish therapeutic objectives thanks to my approach. I'll share one of my favorite Nelson Mandela sayings with you: "It always looks impossible until it is done."

Get to know me

In our first session together, here's what you can expect

You may anticipate a friendly, encouraging environment where your worries and experiences are respected and given due consideration during our initial session. I'll begin by introducing myself before spending some time getting to know you more. To fully grasp your strengths, difficulties, and treatment requirements, we'll explore a variety of facets of your mental health history together. We'll also talk about your treatment objectives and address any preferences or worries you may have with relation to medication administration. At the conclusion of our session, we will collaborate to create a customized treatment plan that meets your goals and takes into account your unique circumstances.

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

My vast expertise and varied background in the mental health sector are my greatest assets as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. I have ten years of experience and have worked in a variety of capacities. I began as a mental health professional and then transitioned to a mental health registered nurse (RN) before taking on my present role as a mental health provider (NP). Along the way, this path has sharpened my talents and insights and given me a profound awareness of the complexity of mental health care. I provide therapy, medication management, and other interventions as part of my holistic approach to care, which guarantees a thorough and individualized approach for every client. It comes naturally to me to establish great therapeutic relationships because I foster a warm, encouraging environment where clients feel heard, understood, and in control.

The clients I'm best positioned to serve

I have the ability to consult with people who suffer from bipolar disorder, mood disorders, anxiety, sadness, OCD, PTSD, ADHD, and psychosis. To establish a good connection and ensure a thorough history is taken so that we can treat you more effectively, I provide one-hour initial appointments.

My treatment methods

Motivational Interviewing

I support clients in changing their behavior by interacting with them in a non-confrontational way and using reflective questioning, active listening, and empathy to extract their own reasons for wanting to change. I assist clients in examining the differences between their present actions and their beliefs, objectives, and aspirations in order to help them see how much change is necessary. I provide my clients with the tools they need to make wise choices and start changing their behavior for the better.

Culturally Sensitive Therapy

I acknowledge and respect my clients' cultural backgrounds, beliefs, and values while fostering a secure and welcoming atmosphere. I keep learning about different cultures while using humility and adaptability in my therapeutic practices. I modify methods in accordance with the cultural preferences of my consumers, guaranteeing linguistic accessibility and proactively confronting preconceptions. I recognize each client's distinct experiences and identity while promoting trust and successful outcomes through encouraging cooperation and community involvement.
