Great to meet you! I’m a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in Virginia with a PhD in Counseling & Supervision, currently accepting new virtual clients for private practice. I provide warm, practical, and insight-oriented therapy for adults navigating anxiety, stress, life transitions, crisis, trauma, burnout, relationship challenges, grief, and personal growth. I’m also certified in equine-assisted psychotherapy through the Equine Assisted Growth and Learning Association model and offer ground-based, experiential sessions with horses in peaceful outdoor settings. No horse experience is needed, and there is no riding involved. These sessions can help build confidence, emotional awareness, communication skills, and nervous system regulation in a unique and supportive environment. Equine-assisted sessions are available as private pay services, depending on location and scheduling, in the Harrisonburg/Rockingham County area and in Leesburg through collaborating farms/horse sanctuary settings. If you are interested in equine therapy please visit www.sparkcounselingva.com for rates and scheduling. My overall approach to counseling is gentle, relational, and strengths-based, meeting you where you are while helping you move forward with clarity and confidence.

Get to know me

In our first session together, here's what you can expect

Starting counseling can feel like a big step, and my goal is to make our first session feel comfortable, supportive, and free of judgment. We'll spend time getting to know one another, talking about what brought you to counseling, what's working in your life, what's feeling difficult, and what you hope will be different. You don't need to have everything figured out before we meet, it's okay if you're unsure where to begin. Together, we'll identify your goals and discuss how we can work toward them in a way that fits your personality, strengths, and values. I'll also answer any questions you have about the counseling process so you know what to expect moving forward. Whether you're navigating anxiety, burnout, life transitions, relationships, ADHD, identity, or simply feeling stuck, we'll create a space where you can be yourself and begin moving from surviving to thriving . . . one step at a time.

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

I bring a unique combination of nearly 30 years of experience as a counselor, educator, executive leader, and coach. My clients appreciate that I can balance compassion with practical strategies, offering both a safe place to process difficult emotions and concrete tools to create meaningful change. I believe people are more than their diagnosis or their struggles. Together, we'll identify your strengths, uncover patterns that may be holding you back, and build skills that help you thrive in your relationships, career, and everyday life. My approach is collaborative, evidence-based, and tailored to each individual. I draw from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Solution-Focused Therapy, mindfulness, and trauma-informed practices, adapting them to fit your unique goals and experiences. I am committed to creating an inclusive, affirming space where clients from all backgrounds feel respected, heard, and valued. I welcome individuals of all races, cultures, ethnicities, sexual orientations, gender identities and expressions, faith traditions, abilities, and relationship structures. I recognize that our identities, lived experiences, and the systems we navigate shape our mental health, and I strive to provide culturally responsive care that honors each person's unique story. Many of my clients are high-achieving professionals, caregivers, leaders, and individuals navigating life transitions, burnout, anxiety, ADHD, relationship challenges, or questions about identity and purpose. They often tell me they appreciate having a counselor who is genuine, direct when needed, and able to see both the big picture and the small steps that lead to lasting growth. My goal is not simply to help you cope, it's to help you build a life that feels more authentic, connected, and fulfilling.

The clients I'm best positioned to serve

I work best with adults who are ready to create meaningful change in their lives. Many of my clients are high-achieving professionals, leaders, caregivers, educators, healthcare professionals, and individuals navigating major life transitions. On the outside, they often appear successful and capable, yet inside they may be struggling with anxiety, burnout, self-doubt, relationship challenges, ADHD, stress, grief, or feeling stuck. I also enjoy working with women navigating midlife transitions, including changing roles, identity, menopause, empty nesting, career shifts, divorce, and rediscovering who they are beyond caring for everyone else. I provide an affirming, inclusive space for LGBTQ+ clients and individuals from diverse backgrounds who are seeking a counselor who values authenticity, cultural humility, and respect for each person's unique lived experience. The clients I enjoy working with most are curious, motivated, and willing to explore new perspectives. You don't have to have all the answers or know exactly what you need, just a willingness to begin. Whether your goal is healing, personal growth, stronger relationships, or simply feeling more like yourself again, we'll work together to help you move from surviving to thriving.

My treatment methods

Eclectic

I take an eclectic approach to therapy, which means I don't believe there is a one-size-fits-all method for every client. Instead, I thoughtfully integrate evidence-based approaches based on your unique needs, goals, strengths, and life experiences. Depending on what you're working through, I may draw from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Solution-Focused Therapy, mindfulness, trauma-informed practices, and strengths-based approaches. Together, we'll find the strategies that resonate most with you, helping you build practical skills, gain new insights, and create meaningful, lasting change. My goal is to provide therapy that is flexible, collaborative, and personalized—meeting you where you are while helping you move toward where you want to be.
