New to Grow
Welcome to Southern Care Counseling. I'm Lori Landes, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with more than 30 years of experience helping adolescents (ages 13+) and adults navigate life's challenges. I believe therapy is most effective when you feel comfortable being yourself. My goal is to provide a warm, supportive, and nonjudgmental space where you feel heard, understood, and empowered to create meaningful change.
During our first session, we'll spend time getting to know one another, discussing what has brought you to therapy, and identifying your goals and hopes for treatment. Together, we'll explore your unique experiences, strengths, and challenges while creating a personalized plan that fits your needs. I want you to leave your first session feeling supported, understood, and hopeful about the work we will do together.
My approach is person-centered and guided by my CARE philosophy—Compassion, Acceptance, Resilience, and Empathy. I view therapy as a collaborative partnership, balancing genuine support with thoughtful reflection and practical strategies. Drawing from evidence-based approaches such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Solution-Focused Therapy, Mindfulness, and Person-Centered Counseling, I help clients build insight, strengthen resilience, develop effective coping skills, and move toward becoming the healthiest and most authentic version of themselves.
My ideal client is an adolescent (ages 13+) or adult who is ready to better understand themselves and create meaningful, lasting change. They may be experiencing anxiety, depression, grief, relationship challenges, life transitions, parenting stress, school or work-related concerns, or simply feeling overwhelmed by life's demands. Whether they are seeking support during a difficult season or looking to build greater self-awareness and resilience, they are open to exploring new perspectives and developing practical skills to improve their emotional well-being. The clients who tend to benefit most from my approach value a collaborative, compassionate therapeutic relationship where they feel safe, heard, and accepted without judgment. They may not have all the answers—and they don't need to. They simply have a willingness to engage in the process, reflect on their experiences, and take small, meaningful steps toward the life they want to create. Together, we work to build confidence, strengthen coping skills, and foster lasting personal growth.

I identify as
Eclectic
My therapeutic style is eclectic, meaning I tailor each session to the unique needs, strengths, and goals of the individual rather than relying on a single treatment approach. I believe there is no one-size-fits-all method for therapy, so I thoughtfully integrate evidence-based approaches that best support each client's journey. At the foundation of my work is a person-centered approach guided by my CARE philosophy—Compassion, Acceptance, Resilience, and Empathy. Depending on your needs, I may incorporate Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to identify and change unhelpful thought patterns, Solution-Focused Therapy to build on your strengths and create achievable goals, Mindfulness to improve emotional regulation and present-moment awareness, Motivational Interviewing to enhance readiness for change, and trauma-informed interventions that promote safety, empowerment, and healing. Throughout our work together, I strive to create a collaborative, supportive, and nonjudgmental environment where you feel heard, understood, and empowered. By adapting my approach to meet you where you are, therapy becomes a personalized experience that helps you build practical coping skills, increase self-awareness, strengthen resilience, and create meaningful, lasting change.
Person-centered (Rogerian)
Person-centered therapy is the foundation of my practice. I believe that every individual has the capacity for growth and healing when they are met with genuine empathy, acceptance, and respect. Rather than focusing on what is "wrong," I strive to understand your unique experiences, strengths, values, and goals, creating a safe, nonjudgmental space where you can openly explore your thoughts and emotions. In our work together, you are the expert on your own life, and I serve as a supportive guide rather than someone who tells you what to do. I listen with curiosity and compassion, helping you gain insight, recognize your strengths, and discover solutions that feel authentic and meaningful to you. By building a trusting therapeutic relationship, we work collaboratively to foster self-awareness, resilience, confidence, and lasting personal growth while moving toward the life you want to create.
Solution Focused Brief Treatment
I use Solution-Focused Therapy to help clients identify their strengths, build on what is already working, and create realistic, achievable goals for positive change. Rather than focusing only on problems or the past, we also explore your existing resources, successes, and abilities to develop practical solutions that move you forward. In our sessions, I will ask thoughtful questions that help you recognize your strengths, clarify what you want to be different, and identify small, meaningful steps toward your goals. Together, we celebrate progress, build confidence, and develop strategies that can be applied in everyday life. While we make space to process difficult experiences and emotions, we also focus on hope, resilience, and your ability to create lasting change.
