(she/her)
I've been working in mental health for 15 years, and I'm a Licensed Professional Counselor in Virginia, Ohio, and Georgia. Most of what I do centers around anxiety, ADHD, autism, trauma, and PTSD — but I work with people dealing with a lot of different things, and I'm not going to tell you your situation doesn't qualify. I see kids, teens, adults, couples, and families, so if you're looking for someone who can work with your family across different ages, that's something I can do. I'm a Certified Trauma Specialist and trained in integrative mental health, which means I bring more tools to the table than just talk therapy. I'm neurodivergence-affirming and work with people across a wide range of identities and communities, including LGBTQ+ individuals and single parents. A lot of my clients have been carrying something for a long time before they finally reach out — that's more common than you'd think, and it's never too late to start.
The first session is mostly about me getting to know you. I'll ask questions about what's bringing you in, what you've already tried, and what you're hoping to get out of this. We'll start talking about goals, but there's no pressure to have everything figured out before we meet — that's what we're here to work on together. I want you to leave that first session feeling like this was a good decision. Like I actually heard you. If you've never done therapy before, that's okay — I'll walk you through what to expect. And if you have done therapy before and it didn't go well, I'd like to hear about that too.
I don't use just one approach because people aren't one-size-fits-all. Depending on what you're dealing with and what works for you, I draw from EMDR, CBT, somatic techniques, ACT, IFS, narrative therapy, strength-based therapy, and trauma-informed CBT, among others. I also use somatic work with clients who carry their stress in their body — not just their thoughts. Some clients do best with something structured; others need more space to talk through things. I pay attention to what's actually helping and adjust as we go. I'm always learning — adding new training and skills is something I take seriously. What I'm not going to do is stick you in a rigid formula that doesn't fit your life.
Ideal clients are those ready to go through the process of growth, change, and healing. I have experience working with a large, diverse population of clients in my 15 years in this field. The most important aspect of counseling is the person's desire to want to get help; to learn new skills, better themselves and explore the past painful experiences that may still be negatively impacting life.

I connected with Amanda very quickly. I appreciated her ability to be myself and had good suggestions to rediscovering my areas I have hidden. I look forward to our next appointment

For a first appointment with a counselor, she honed in on two things no other counselor or doctor did in 30 years of being treated for depression and anxiety... I never made connections between how my thoughts stay when I didn't have background noise/stimulus. She helped me realize it right away. I look forward to seeing what other ways she may be able to assist me.
