Greetings and salutations. I am a LMSW/LISW, licensed in both Michigan, Texas, and Ohio, but I reside in the Detroit area. I have been a therapist for 7 years, and specialize in working with children and teenagers. I love working with relationship issues, ADHD, ODD, anxiety, depression, and social conflict. I meet virtually for Ohio, Texas, and Michigan clients, and in person for Michigan clients. I only see kids age 12+ for virtual sessions.
At the beginning of every session, I always say, "I don't know you, and you don't know me. We are strangers, and we need to get to know each other so that we can trust each other. What's the first thing you want me to know about you?" After hearing my client's answer, I'll ask, "Now, I know about you but you don't know anything about me. What's something you would like to know about me?" After this, I will begin asking the reasons why you are in therapy, and the conversation will naturally progress from there.
"Humor is like a rubber sword- it can make a point without drawing blood" describes my therapy style. I will be funny and I will be direct, but it won't hurt. I love my job, and I have a genuine passion that even my youngest clients have noticed. I have 10 years experience as a social worker, and I have many stories of success and triumph. I would love for your child to be one of those stories.
I love working with youth who have been diagnosed with Oppositional Defiant Disorder, or significant behavioral difficulties. I enjoy angry kids, or kids that feel misunderstood. My approach is non-traditional, and it works well with kids who have had bad experiences in therapy, or hate the concept of therapy in general. I also tend to have good success with folks who struggle with anxiety, depression, autism, and low self-esteem.
