Maricruz Valdez is a Licensed Professional Counselor and Certified Biblical Counselor. Her approach integrates biblical principles with evidence-based therapeutic approaches, addressing both the spiritual and psychological aspects of well-being. She views each client as uniquely created and tailors her methods to meet the client’s specific needs. Her approach blends biblical principles with practical, evidence-based methods. She uses cognitive behavioral therapy to help clients understand how their thoughts influence their emotions and actions. She incorporates solution-focused strategies to highlight strengths and identify steps that lead to meaningful progress. She also uses motivational interviewing to support clients in exploring their goals, strengthening their motivation, and creating lasting change.
In our first session together, here's what you can expect
The first session is an opportunity to begin building a trusting relationship and lay the foundation for future work together and your goals for therapy. It's a time to get to know you and for you to know the therapist! I will ask questions to understand the client’s background and current struggles, creating a comfortable space for open dialogue. The therapist will explain the therapy process, confidentiality, and how sessions typically work.
The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions
As a therapist, I believe my greatest strengths lie in my empathy, listening skills, and ability to create a safe, nonjudgmental space for clients to explore their thoughts and emotions. I have a passion for working with individuals who want to improve their lives and find meaning and purpose in their lives. I strive to instill hope, perseverance, and biblical truth to help clients reach their goals and find the root of their problems.
The clients I'm best positioned to serve
I received my master’s degree from Angelo State University and Texas A&M-San Antonio. I earned a Certificate in Biblical Counseling from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. Over the years, I have had the privilege of working with school-age children, adolescents, and adults and providing couples counseling through church ministries. I have been called to this work from my own experience of finding healing and forgiveness through Christ.
