I started my career in mental health as a mental health technician for PEAK Behavioral Hospital in 2006. I then became a Qualified Mental Health Professional/Case Manager for Texana Center for 8 years in 2007. I then became a behavioral health counselor at Eating Recovery Center-Houston with clients struggling with various eating disorders, followed by becoming a therapist for two different PHP/IOP programs, one for adults and the other for adolescents. Finally, I have experience working for a private practice and now my own private practice with clients who struggle with stress, domestic violence, parenting, family conflict, etc. I am a licensed professional counselor who provides a safe space for all to explore whom they are and gain a sense of self and awareness. My space is LGBTQIA+ friendly, and I'm told I make the most impact with client's gaining an awareness of their core values, ways to align their behaviors with their core values to live a fulfilled life, understanding the barriers in doing so, and learning how to bring balance to their lives. I have experience working with children, adolescents, and adults with various diagnoses including Eating Disorders, Anxiety, ADHD, Oppositional Defiant Disorder, Depression, Bipolar, Psychosis, Borderline Personality Disorder, Schizoaffective Disorder, as well as general stressors and everyday anxieties. I am a compassionate and competent therapist, who is always seeking and willing to learn to improve my skill. I'm here to meet you where you are without any judgement whatsoever, and help you explore the root of your stressors or symptoms. I'm here to help you gain an insight and the strength to make choices that are best for you and your mental health.
The first session is to discuss and gain an understanding of the reasons why the client is seeking therapy, discuss ways I can possibly help, and then answer any questions the client may have surrounding my style of therapy and what to expect.
My greatest strength is my well rounded experience, ability to create and utilize infographics for clients to take with them as reminders, as well as my compassion and ability to create a safe and comfortable space.
I enjoy working with adult clients only, who are here needing help gaining an understanding of their stressors, vulnerabilities, strengths, and values, in order to live a more fulfilled life. I am also here to serve clients who are experiencing distress, due to serious mental health challenges and diagnoses.
This approach is rooted in accepting ones own thoughts and feelings without judgment, then align behaviors with your core values. If you don't already know your core values, I take you through an exercise to identify them.
This approach is rooted in identifying irrational and unchallenged thoughts, and learning how to challenge their validity, because a simple thought can affect the way we feel and act.
This approach emphasizes the many different approaches/modalities used in order to specify and tailor the treatment plan for each individual client. My eclectic approach includes elements of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Acceptance & Commitment Therapy, Shame Resilience, Attachment, Trauma-Focused, etc.
This approach is rooted in learning to press the pause button, to both become aware and also accept ones own thoughts, feelings, and sensations, which is valuable and needed information as a first step to doing anything about them.
I have created many infographics to help clients learn/gain self awareness in multiple different areas, including emotion regulation, aligning behaviors with core values to live a fulfilled and values driven life, etc.
