Hey, most people call me Jess. I believe counseling is a mutual relationship. I view each person I see as the expert in their lives and I am in the passenger seat. My approach to counseling is holistic and trauma informed, every person is different, therefore every counseling approach does not work for everyone. I will take the time to work with you to find what works best for you. Since everyone is different; if a client and I do not mesh well, I will help them to find a counselor who works better for them.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

In the first session I like to take the time to explain confidentiality, my approach. I like to get to know each other, find out what is going on, what brings them in, and begin to build our therapeutic relationship, while setting the direction for what they want to work on and work toward.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

Working at a Child Advocacy Center and in private practice, I have many years of experience working in all types of trauma, as well as anxiety, depression, with the LGBTQ+ community. I believe my experience of working with all ages and circumstances has helped me build treatment plans with each client that is individually unique to my client.

Describe the client(s) you are best positioned to serve.

I enjoy working with people from all walks of life, ages, and beliefs. I enjoy being a part of forming and coming up with goals together to heal and grow and pave the way for futures, while honoring and validating past experiences.

My treatment methods

Person-centered (Rogerian)

I use a holistic approach to best individualize sessions and treatment, to work as a team with each client to assess, address, and process through individual needs and setting goals. I believe each person is the expert in their life, I am here to help navigate goals, provide validation, and tools to assist in working toward each goal; whether it is processing past traumas, learning coping skills, working on self-esteem or challenging negative thoughts to planning for the future or life changes.

EMDR

I am trained in EMDR and trauma focused trained as well and use this as a guide from early approach with resourcing through traumas that are highlighted or other circumstances that EMDR may be useful.

Trauma-Focused CBT

I began my career at a Child Advocacy Center, working in crimes against children. Trained in TF-CBT, an approach that has shaped my trauma informed approach across modalities.
