New to Grow
My approach to therapy is eclectic (blending different styles to fit your needs), strengths-based and collaborative. Together, we'll identify your challenges and maximize your strengths to help you live a happier and more satisfying life. I work with adults of all ages who are feeling anxious or overwhelmed, exhausted from masking, dealing with grief/loss, and those going through life transitions.
In the initial session, my goal is to get to know you and the reasons you're currently seeking therapy at this time. I'll ask questions about your life history, previous mental health treatment, and what you hope to accomplish from therapy. You will also have an opportunity to ask questions and from there we'll begin to formulate a plan for helping you achieve your goals.
I am very much the therapist who respects that "you" are the expert on you in the therapy space. That means I'm eager to listen to your individual experiences rather than making assumptions based on checkboxes and generalities. I ask lots of questions because I'm curious to understand and I offer guidance and feedback as appropriate. When I notice that you’re stuck in unhelpful patterns, I'll gently point that out and challenge you. I'm also neuro-affirming and encourage authentic self expression and personal advocacy. Beyond labels, I see people having human experiences and I view my work as a way to reconnect you to that.
I am excited to work with clients who are ready to show up and try. My clients are often experiencing a life transition and feeling anxious or overwhelmed when they reach out and in need of a supportive space to put it all in perspective. They are ready to understand themselves better, develop skills and resilience, and commit to practicing the things they learn between sessions.
Eclectic therapy simply means that I draw from different therapy methods depending on your unique needs. This often includes Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, Narrative Therapy, Somatic, and Solution-Focused therapies. I also enjoy incorporating expressive arts and nature-based techniques based on your interests.
