About me

Hello, my name is Khiana Simmons, and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. I graduated with a Masters in Social Work from The Catholic University of America. I have been practicing therapy for six years. Currently, I am a grief counselor and have been focusing on helping clients navigate life without their loved ones presence on earth. I have worked in hospital settings, hospice, schools, and private practice.

Get to know me

In our first session together, here's what you can expect

In our first session, we will focus on building rapport with one another. This is an important step in the process, as it will set the foundation of the work we will complete together. We will discuss challenges you are facing, and we will set measurable goals that you would like to work on to improve the symptoms that you are experiencing.

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

I utilize a strengths-based approach. Each client has internal strengths and resources. We will focus on your strengths rather than your weaknesses. I use evidence-based techniques that will allow you to notice changes in how you show up in your world. Seeking therapy can be difficult and you may not know what to expect. I will provide you with a safe space to share your life experiences and troubles. My goal is for you to leave each session feeling seen and understood.

The clients I'm best positioned to serve

I enjoy working with clients of all ages. My clients generally have feelings of anxiety and depression. My clients are eager to learn coping skills that will improve their daily functioning.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I have been using CBT in practice for the past seven years. CBT will allow you to see how your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors are intertwined. We will use that awareness to change your thinking patterns and behaviors that are not helpful to you.

Mindfulness-Based Therapy

Mindfulness is a practice that I have enjoyed using for the past six years. We cannot change what happens in our worlds, but we can practice and change how we respond. Clients benefit from self regulation and learning how to calm their nervous system.

Grief Therapy

I have been a grief therapist for the past four years. Grief is unique and while there are common symptoms, we all will experience grief differently. As a grief therapist, I will help you process your loved ones death, acknowledge the hurt that comes with death, but also highlight the meaningful experiences you've shared with their loved one, and find ways to view your life with purpose after your loved one has left you physically.

During my first appointment with Dr. Simmons, I cried like a baby. She was patient and available, allowing me to talk freely and understand my challenges. What stood out was her willingness to help me navigate life's journey.

I don’t think she knows how much easier she makes life for me. I feel so comfortable telling her my life stories. She doesn’t judge me and often reminds me to not judge myself and tells me that I’m only human. She always has a solution and a way for me to work things out. I’m forever grateful for her.
