Naomi Papirno
Hi. I have been a licensed therapist for over 25 years and have lived in Miami for 45 years. During this time I have worked with children and families in an office setting as well as individuals who struggle with anxiety, depression, anger management and many other issues and just generally coping with all that life has thrown at them.
I have a unique blend of being an experienced therapist (25+ years) coupled with educational experience working in schools as a teacher, therapist and interventionist.
My methods vary and my preference is for short term solution oriented therapy.
First session
In our first session, we will explore what brings you to therapy and any relevant past history. I use motivational interviewing to best understand what you are seeking help with. By the end of the session we will firm up what we you want to focus on and this will provide the framework for the treatment plan with specific goals and objectives. You will be the one to decide what to focus on not me, although I can make what I hope are helpful sessions.
Strengths
I have had numerous experiences both professionally and thru volunteer work that have made me who I am. I have a unique blend of being an experienced therapist (25+ years) coupled with educational experience working in schools as a teacher, therapist and interventionist. I have spent many years working at a community mental health and was engaged with all kinds of clients with a variety of symptoms. If you are unsure what you want help with, we will work together to come up with a goal to work on.
Ideal clients
I work best with clients who are seeking short term goal oriented therapy. I also welcome parents who are seeking to improve their relationship with their children and with both adults and children who are dealing with high anxiety including social anxiety.
Treatment methods
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
CBT therapy is helpful in all kinds of situations be it anxiety, depression, parenting, etc. Understanding that there is more than one way of thinking about a situation and/or understanding it is very helpful in coping with it rather than just reacting as usual.
Family Therapy
Many times children's presenting problems are a result of interaction patterns in the family which when looked at and changed can have significant results
Motivational Interviewing
Motivational interviewing is a technique whereby the therapist listens very closely and carefully to exactly why the client has come for treatment, what they want help with and how they have tried to solve the problem before coming to therapy. Interventions and support are then provided based on what the primary motivation is for the client coming to therapy at this time.
