Hi there, I'm Maritza :) If you're feeling awkward about seeking counseling...don't! lol Easier said than done for some, but the truth is most people can benefit from seeing a therapist. We all go through phases in life where we just need to talk it through with someone (that isn't a friend or family member); that's where I come in! Whether you're dealing with feeling overwhelmed by life, experiencing relationship issues, managing the stress of becoming a new parent, surviving grief, figuring out what to do with your future (careers/life changes) or living with cycles of anxiety and depression (including post-partum), I'm here to help! Also, you may not even know WHAT you feel and I can help you figure that out too. You deserve a safe space to speak your mind, to heal, and to grow. In our sessions together, I'll meet you with compassion, the occasional joke, and use evidence-based techniques in order to accomplish your goals. We'll spend some time talking about your reasons for seeking help, developing some goals for us to accomplish, and then we will get to work. Let's do this!
First session will consist of orienting the client to the counseling process, building rapport, and reviewing the intake paperwork.
My treatment modalities include: Client-Centered Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Choice Theory, Gottman Therapy (couples/marriage issues), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Solution Focused Therapy, Bibliotherapy, Christian Counseling (if requested) and several others techniques/approaches. Honestly, I don't believe that there is a "one size fits all" modality when it comes to working with people. The tools and techniques that I use will be eclectic; I will pull from different methods depending on the issues we are facing and also go based off of what my client feels is helpful to them.
My biggest strengths include connecting with my clients and helping them identify where the "problem" is. I have a history of working with individuals in populations including: crisis/suicide, psychiatric hospitals, homeless population, young adults, post-partum, marriage/couples therapy, Christian ministry, and victims of crimes. I am passionate about empowering others and have enjoyed working with and seeing clients overcome obstacles such as the stress of becoming a new parent, grief, reconciling a relationship, learning to set and hold healthy boundaries, learning about their own mental health, making a career change, planning out their futures, decreasing their anxiety/depression, and so much more! It's a privilege to get a front row seat to your journey.
I believe I work best with clients who will show up for themselves consistently (come to their sessions); everything else will happen over time, but showing up is the first and most important step.
