Hello! I'm Darlene, a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in the State of Indiana and a Certified Professional Coach with over 17 years of experience in listening to and connecting with people to help them grow, change, heal and reach personal and professional goals. I have provided valuable individual, family and relationship counseling on an outpatient basis, in residential treatment facilities, on crisis hotlines, in domestic violence shelters and in manufacturing plants. I offer a warm and welcoming environment while addressing a variety of concerns including stress management, leadership development, anxiety, depression and eating-related disorders. Using methods that help adjust or fine-tune thinking, calm emotions and tap into strengths, I support clients in becoming more effective at exploring, finding and creating solutions to begin to thrive and better cope with life.
The first session will be an opportunity to further connect and build sound treatment goals for the work.
My biggest strength is helping people understand themselves in order to create a life that works for them. Once you know your values, your vision and your mission (purpose), you can begin to make choices & decisions that align and move you in a direction that suits/fits you versus moving in the direction society wants for you. Most people are unhappy because they haven't yet found out that they can spend their lives focusing on what's within their control instead of focusing on trying to change other people or systems that are outside of their control. My favorite quote is, "Most people don't lead their lives. They just accept their lives." -- John C. Maxwell. Work with me helps clients begin to lead/guide/direct their lives for greater live satisfaction!
I work best with clients seeking personal, professional, relational, and/or spiritual growth and development who may also likely be experiencing a significant degree of life dissatisfaction. I also love supporting couples who may be "winging it" in their relationship. There are solid principles for building a strong relationship. And sometimes we just don't know what we don't know, but WE CAN LEARN!
For clients who specify, I provide Christian Counseling that seeks to incorporate Biblical principles into the resolution of presenting issues.
I use thought management interventions to support clients in creating more supportive thought processes.
I use interventions from The Gottman method, EFCT (Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy), and Imago Relationship Theory)to support couples in learning to create a more satisfying relationship. Experiencing a great relationship doesn't have to be left to luck!
I love focusing on strengths while supporting clients to realistically assess areas of growth. This helps me meet people where they are as they journey to a path of greate self-advocacy and self-empowerment.
