I am a mature woman with a young spirit. I am interested in what is going on in the world and tend to stay current and youthful in my thinking. I am a perpetual learner and am very open minded. I strive to be accepting and non-judgemental. I see myself as a tool to be used in the therapeutic work we are pursuing. I have had many unique and challenging life experiences that equip me to easily relate to a broad group of individuals. I may have walked in your shoes. I will strive to relate to you as though I have with empathy and compassion.
During the first session, I perform a thorough clinical interview in which I gain knowledge of the client in many ways including demographics, social history, their goals, etc. This provides a framework to prepare to launch the therapy. As much as this interview is extensive, I do not belabor the time spent. The information gained will be utilized thereafter to begin the counseling session during this first meeting. I like to be productive. By the end of the hour long session, I will have ascertained enough information and knowledge of the client to be able to prescribe some homework for them to focus on in the following week until we return again.
I am extremely intuitive and perceptive as to the client's underlying issues. I am not intimidated by tough topics and I am willing to go where we need to go to uproot issues that are festering under the surface causing the client pain and emotional distress. I often suprise clients by how we are able to explore issues openly and comfortably in areas they have never shared before. I don't let shame, guilt, or embarrassment stand in the way
I am comfortable serving every age group. I prefer over 18 yo. I enjoy those who are selecting therapy with the honest intent to delve in to self discovery and healing. I feel qualified to work with just about every mental health topic. If I am not productive I will not waste the clients time and will seek to help them gain a better fit to better serve them. I have 30 plus years of experience performing psychotherapy so just about everything has crossed my path.
Having been in the practice of psychotherapy for a number of years, I have learned of the successful use of and approach to applying a number of therapeutic techniques according to the issues requiring attention. I am inclined to use a solution focused approach where there may be homework assigned each week to begin to move on the changes required to gain relief and to see improvements.
