Sam Rosen
I am easygoing and enjoy humor in the room but also know when to be straightforward and direct. I have been a therapist for 12 years, and the work still challenges and engages me in the best ways. I enjoy helping my clients explore the messier, more complicated parts of life. Successful therapy is based on a foundation of trust, comfort, and genuine human connection.
First session
My goals is to help you feel comfortable and relaxed. Our first session will be us getting to know each other. I will ask questions to get an understanding of your background and current concerns, and you'll be free to ask any questions you may have as well. I don't just want to know your symptoms, but to get an idea of who you are as a person -- your likes and dislikes, what works for you, and how I can best support you. There may be things you aren't comfortable talking about yet, and that's OK. I will not push. If you decide you want to proceed in scheduling more sessions with me, we'll do so at the end. If you are unsure or choose not to, no pressure. It is important to find a therapist who is the right fit for you.
Strengths
I have a diverse range of experience with people from all walks of life. I genuinely root for my clients and celebrate their successes with them, and I also enjoy a good laugh when appropriate. Any topic that comes up for you in session is fair game, and I have a very high threshold for weirdness!
Ideal clients
I work best with clients who are self-motivated, curious, and willing to be honest with themselves, even if they don't have it all figured out just yet. Many of my ideal clients know something is off and are ready to look at it instead of ignoring it or just powering through. You don't need perfectly clear goals, even a simple "I don't want to feel this way anymore" can be a great place to start, and we can clarify the rest together.
Treatment methods
Acceptance and commitment (ACT)
I help clients identify what their values are, and how to live in alignment with those values. Identifying and living up to your values allows you to live a happier, more fulfilled life. I also use ACT techniques to help clients identify and understand their emotions better, without rushing to avoid or suppress them.
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
I use CBT to help clients identify and reshape maladaptive thoughts and behaviors. I incorporate a variety of techniques including identifying distorted thoughts, relaxation techniques, and building foundational routines.
