Hello and welcome to Grow Therapy. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC). I have worked in the mental health field since 1998. First, with my bachelors degree and later doing clinical work after earning my master's degree. I believe taking care of our mental health should be as accepted and routine as taking care of our physical health. Therapy can help us to be the best versions of ourselves. Life is a beautiful mess. Sometimes everything seems to be going our way. And other times, it can leave us feeling overwhelmed, confused, and off balance. I would like to offer guidance and support as you navigate those ups and downs.
My professional style has evolved from my varied experiences. I rely on a common sense approach. Counseling is casual and conversational. We will work as a team; identifying strengths, setting goals, and overcoming barriers. Our first session will be more of a "get acquainted" session. We will review some basic history / demographics information and talk about possible goals for our work together.
My clients appreciate my open and honest style. Sometimes therapy can be difficult because it involves seeing your own personal experiences through a new perspective. Being able to challenge a client in a non-judgmental and kind way is essential. I help clients to reframe the way they think about themselves and the situations they encounter. It is often an empowering experience.
Throughout my career I have had the opportunity to practice in a variety of settings and populations. I have worked with children in school settings, adolescents in psychiatric hospitalization, families in their homes and communities, and couples and adults through outpatient services. After years in supervisory roles and working in community mental health I returned (2 years ago) to outpatient therapy. Working with adults to help them achieve their therapy goals is my passion.
The CBT approach recognizes the important relationship between our thoughts, behaviors, and emotions. Learning to identify and challenge problematic thoughts allows for altered behavior patterns and ultimately leads to positive emotional changes. Symptoms are reduced. New healthy patterns take hold. And life feels more manageable.
Gestalt therapy techniques rely on a strong trusting relationship between the client and therapist. Clients work to increase self awareness, increasing ability to make informed choices, and practice self regulation. This integrated approach considers all aspects of a person - thoughts, feelings, body, memories, and behaviors. Together we can work to understand how past experiences influence current situations and integrate new skills for symptom reduction.
Drawing from the best in evidence based practice, the eclectic approach allows for picking and choosing techniques that are the best fit for each individual client. No two people are the same so using a variety of modalities and approaches just makes sense.
It's no secret that relationships are hard work. Learning to work together for the good of the relationship and to grow both as individuals and as a couple takes effort. Investing in your relationship will help to build, or re-build, a strong foundation to move you into the future.
Reality therapy is empowering in that clients are able to make choices about their own behaviors and thoughts that lead in a more positive and productive direction. Together we can help create a quality life, connected to people and to the world in ways that bring about love and belonging, achievement, independence, and fulfillment.
