Hi! My name is Billy. Are you struggling with depression, anxiety, substance abuse, stress, anger...or possibly all five? These issues are not uncommon and can be debilitating, especially when guilt or shame are added to the mix. But you can kick them all to the curb. All it takes is a willingness to change your perspectives. I've worked with thousands of clients (adults and children) who struggle with self-defeating beliefs that zap the joy out of life. And I've found that Hope and Purpose, along with healthy doses of Motivation and Creativity, crush inner demons. How do you find Hope and Purpose? It's not as complicated as you might think. We are made to help each other. We are made to communicate. We are made to have a positive impact. Sometimes, though, life attacks from all directions and leaves us feeling defeated. That's when we need help. I'm here to listen. I'm here to learn about your struggles and find ways to help you view them differently. And, who knows? I may even share some of my Blackstone Griddle secrets along the way. God Bless!
What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?
In our first session, I want to spend some time building rapport. BUT, I also want to quickly dive into your hopes about treatment. I guarantee you have some strengths you have overlooked. Maybe your perspectives are just a little off target. Maybe you've believed someone else's lies about you. Maybe you've believed your own lies about you. I'm most interested in how you think.
Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.
My strength is listening. Numerous times in the past I've been told some variation of "Thank you so much for helping me through this." In those instances, I remember thinking, "I barely talked." This taught me that a few well-placed open-ended questions with a client who is motivated to change results in the client talking themselves through their problems. I just happened to be in the room. This is how Carl Rogers believed the therapeutic process should work. I agree with him.

Solution Focused Brief Treatment
I credit a counselor named Elliott Connie for teaching me (via online learning) the benefits of SFBT, which essentially focuses on a person's future hopes and past successes. This method of treatment uses well-placed questions to help people identify strengths they might not have realized they had. As you focus on and believe in the possibilities of the future, the past slowly goes where it belongs....Back to the Past. In most cases, I see little benefit in spending a lot of time digging into the past. It's never going to change. But the future, with a change of perspective, can suddenly look much better! NOTE: Your past is definitely influencing you in some way. We'll process it. I just don't want you to live there anymore. There's no place for it in the future.
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
CBT = How you think determines how you behave, which reinforces how you think. Most people don't think about the impact their thoughts have on their emotions and resultant behaviors. Changing your thinking WILL change everything. The beliefs you plant (or permit others to plant) in your mind are true to you....until you put them on trial, find them guilty, and send them away.
