Hello! It's so nice to meet you. My name is Lynn Gordon, and I'm a Licensed Clinical Social Worker practicing in Florida. I understand that you may be going through a tough time, and I'm here to help. I received my master's degree in social work from Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton, and over the past five years, I've had the privilege of working with patients who are struggling with addiction and mental health issues. As a therapist, I offer a safe and supportive space for individuals to heal, and I provide individual and group therapy services for the treatment of substance use disorders and co-occurring psychiatric conditions at all levels of care. I have experience working with a variety of issues such as anxiety, depression, codependency, career-related issues, trauma, and grief and loss. Please know that I am here to support you and help you through this journey.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

During our first session, we'll have the chance to get to know each other, build a relationship, and establish trust. Honesty is crucial, as it will help me gain a better understanding of your needs. Together, we will develop a personalized treatment plan that aligns with your specific goals and concerns.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

What makes me unique as a therapist is my ability to connect with clients on a deep level and create a safe and nonjudgmental space for them to explore their emotions and experiences. I have a strong background in cognitive-behavioral therapy, which allows me to help clients identify and change negative thought patterns and behaviors. Additionally, my experience working with diverse populations has given me a greater understanding and appreciation for cultural differences and how they impact mental health. My strengths lie in my empathy, patience, and dedication to helping others navigate their struggles and achieve personal growth. These qualities, combined with my clinical skills and experience, enable me to be an effective and compassionate clinician.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a psychotherapy approach that examines the interconnection between thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It aids individuals in identifying and challenging negative thought patterns, replacing them with more positive and adaptive alternatives. CBT in Clinical Practice: Assessment: The therapist conducts a comprehensive assessment to understand the client's concerns, symptoms, and thought patterns. Identifying Cognitive Distortions: The therapist assists the client in recognizing common cognitive distortions, such as: - Overgeneralization: Making broad statements based on a single incident. - Catastrophizing: Exaggerating the negative outcomes of a situation. - All-or-nothing thinking: Viewing situations in black-and-white terms. - Personalization: Attributing blame to oneself for negative events. Challenging Negative Thoughts: After identifying cognitive distortions, the therapist helps the client challenge and replace them with realistic and positive thoughts, often by questioning their validity and gathering supporting evidence for alternative perspectives. Behavior Activation: CBT emphasizes increasing positive behaviors by encouraging clients to engage in activities that promote well-being and reduce avoidance. Skill Building: Clients learn coping skills, such as relaxation techniques, problem-solving strategies, and assertiveness training, to effectively manage their emotions and behaviors.

Mindfulness-Based Therapy

By cultivating mindfulness, clients can learn to observe and accept their experiences without judgment, leading to greater self-awareness and emotional regulation. This approach can help clients develop healthier coping strategies, improve relationships, and enhance overall well-being.

Strength-Based

In my practice, I utilize strength-based therapy to focus on your unique strengths, resources, and abilities to help you overcome challenges and achieve your goals. By emphasizing your positive qualities and empowering you to build on them, we can work together to create lasting change and growth. Through this approach, I aim to foster a sense of resilience, self-confidence, and empowerment in my clients.

Motivational Interviewing

In my practice, I use Motivational Interviewing as a collaborative, goal-oriented approach to helping clients explore and resolve ambivalence toward change. By using open-ended questions, reflective listening, and empathy, I work with clients to strengthen their motivation and commitment to making positive life changes. This approach helps clients increase their self-awareness, build confidence, and develop a personalized plan for achieving their goals.

Solution Focused Brief Treatment

Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) is a form of psychotherapy that focuses on finding solutions to current problems rather than dwelling on the past. It's a goal-directed approach that emphasizes the client's strengths and resources to help them achieve their desired outcomes in a short amount of time. In clinical practice, SFBT is used for a wide range of issues, including depression, anxiety, relationship problems, and addiction. The therapist works with the client to identify small, achievable goals and helps them develop strategies to reach those goals. The therapist also helps the client recognize and build on their strengths to overcome challenges.
