Helping client's identify the root cause of their challenges and supporting them in identifying triggers and patterns with a focus on creating a shift towards desired changes.
Trauma informed approaches allow me to meet clients where they are at with their particular needs during the therapeutic process. This approach also recognizes that an individuals past experiences might be influencing their presenting problem regardless of it being conscious or unconscious. Trauma informed approaches allow me to align with my client's needs in away that creates an insightful, supportive and compassionate space.
As a clinician I am committed to a lifetime of learning about my client's and their backgrounds. I highlight the importance of understanding my client's background, culture, belief systems, race, orientation and gender. This allows me to relate to my client's and allows them to feel seen and heard. I have experience working with clients from many different backgrounds and cultures.
I have extensive experience with Dialectical behavioral therapy(DBT) as I have utilized this modality in community mental health setting, private pratice, treatment center settings to include (detox/residential, PHP and IOP level of care). DBT allows me to teach client's how to navigate through life with the use of several coping skills, cognitive challenging and rewriting negative experiences and skewed perceptions.
Polyvagal therapy allows me to understand my client's autonomic nervous system responses and support them with navigating trauma responses, fight, flight or freeze responses.
Psychoeducation allows me to teach client's the skills and concepts that they need in that particular moment. I provided psychoeducation on various topics that include and are not limited to coping skills, grounding techniques, boundary setting, mindfulness practices and an understanding of family dynamics and systems theory.
