Chioma Ikedinobi
Hello, and welcome. I'm Dr. Chioma Ikedinobi, DNP, APRN, PMHNP-BC, a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner with more than 18 years of healthcare experience, including advanced postgraduate psychiatric residency training at the VA North Texas Health Care System. Throughout my career, I've had the privilege of caring for adolescents, adults, older adults, and veterans facing a wide range of mental health challenges. I know that reaching out for help isn't always easy. Whether you're feeling overwhelmed by anxiety, weighed down by depression, struggling with ADHD, navigating trauma, managing bipolar disorder, or simply feeling unlike yourself, you deserve compassionate care in a space where you feel respected and understood. My approach is collaborative, evidence-based, and individualized. I believe every person's story is unique, and together we'll develop a treatment plan that fits your goals, values, and lifestyle. My goal is not only to reduce symptoms but to help you regain confidence, build resilience, and experience lasting emotional wellness.
First session
Your first appointment is about getting to know you—not just your symptoms. We'll discuss what brought you to treatment, your history, current concerns, strengths, and goals. My role is to listen carefully, understand the full picture, and work with you to develop a personalized treatment plan. When medication is appropriate, I take time to explain your options, discuss expected benefits and possible side effects, and involve you in every treatment decision. My goal is to prescribe thoughtfully and only when it aligns with your needs and preferences. By the end of our session, you'll have a clearer understanding of your concerns, a personalized treatment plan, and practical next steps so you can move forward with confidence.
Strengths
My greatest strength is creating an environment where people feel genuinely heard, respected, and never judged. Many of my clients tell me they appreciate that I take time to listen before making recommendations, because understanding your story is just as important as understanding your symptoms. I combine compassionate listening with evidence-based psychiatric care. My clinical background spans outpatient psychiatry, inpatient care, addiction services, trauma-informed treatment, consult-liaison psychiatry, telepsychiatry, and veteran mental health, allowing me to care for individuals with both straightforward and complex mental health concerns. I believe treatment works best when it's a partnership. I'll support and encourage you while also helping you recognize patterns that may be keeping you stuck. Together we'll build realistic, sustainable strategies that help you move toward the life you want—not just feel better temporarily.
Ideal clients
My ideal clients are adults and older adults who are ready to better understand their mental health and actively participate in their treatment. They may be struggling with anxiety, depression, ADHD, trauma, PTSD, bipolar disorder, stress, grief, insomnia, or major life transitions that are affecting their daily functioning, relationships, or quality of life. Whether you're seeking care for the first time or returning after previous treatment, I provide a compassionate, judgment-free environment where we work together to develop a personalized treatment plan that supports meaningful, lasting improvement.
Treatment methods
Supportive
Sometimes people simply need a safe place to talk, process difficult experiences, and feel understood. I provide a compassionate, nonjudgmental environment where we work together to strengthen resilience, improve coping skills, and support your emotional well-being.
Mindfulness-Based Therapy
Mindfulness is a practical approach that helps you slow down, become more present, and manage difficult thoughts and emotions with greater awareness. I incorporate mindfulness-based techniques, including breathing exercises, grounding strategies, and other evidence-based practices, to help reduce anxiety, improve emotional regulation, build resilience, and support long-term mental wellness. We'll work together to find strategies that fit your lifestyle and treatment goals.
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy helps us understand how thoughts, emotions, and behaviors influence one another. During our sessions, I'll help you identify unhelpful thinking patterns, develop healthier coping strategies, and build practical skills you can apply in everyday life to better manage anxiety, depression, stress, and other emotional challenges.
Dialectical Behavior (DBT)
Life can feel overwhelming when emotions become difficult to manage. I use DBT-informed strategies to help you develop practical skills for managing stress, regulating emotions, improving relationships, and responding to challenges more effectively. My goal is to help you build confidence, resilience, and healthier ways of coping that you can use long after our sessions.
Faith-based therapy
For clients who desire it, I integrate faith and spirituality into treatment alongside evidence-based mental health care. I respect each person's beliefs and values, and together we can explore how faith may support healing, resilience, and personal growth. Faith is incorporated only when it is important to you and aligns with your treatment goals.
