New to Grow
Hi, I'm Dewanna, a Licensed Professional Counselor and founder of Therapy With Dewanna. I provide a warm, collaborative, and culturally responsive space where clients can explore life's challenges without judgment. I specialize in helping adults navigate anxiety, trauma, depression, life transitions, relationship concerns, and burnout while building practical tools for healing, emotional wellness, and personal growth. My goal is to help you feel empowered, understood, and supported as you create meaningful change in your life.
Your first session is all about getting to know you and understanding what brings you to therapy. We'll discuss your current concerns, personal history, strengths, and the goals you hope to achieve. This is also an opportunity for you to ask questions, share what is important to you, and determine whether I feel like a good fit for your therapy journey. My approach is conversational, collaborative, and judgment-free. You don't need to have everything figured out before coming to therapy—my goal is to create a space where you feel comfortable, supported, and empowered to begin the healing process at your own pace.
What makes my approach unique is that I balance genuine compassion with practical tools for change. I don't believe in a one-size-fits-all approach to therapy. Instead, I take the time to understand your story, cultural background, relationships, and life experiences so that therapy feels personalized and meaningful. I blend evidence-based approaches with a warm, down-to-earth style that helps clients feel both supported and challenged. My goal is not only to help you cope with current struggles but also to increase self-awareness, strengthen emotional resilience, and create lasting changes that support the life you want to build.
I work best with adults and older adolescents who are feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or navigating significant life transitions. Many of my clients struggle with anxiety, depression, trauma, burnout, relationship challenges, people-pleasing, low self-esteem, ADHD, caregiver stress, or difficulty setting healthy boundaries. I am especially passionate about supporting individuals who have spent much of their lives caring for others while neglecting their own needs. My clients are often seeking greater emotional balance, healthier relationships, increased self-confidence, and a deeper understanding of themselves. Together, we create a space where healing, self-discovery, and meaningful change can occur at a pace that feels supportive and sustainable.
Other specialties
I identify as
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
DeWanna uses CBT to help clients understand the connection between their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. Together, we identify unhelpful patterns, challenge beliefs that no longer serve you, and develop practical coping skills to manage anxiety, depression, stress, and life transitions. My approach is trauma-informed, culturally responsive, and collaborative. I help clients increase self-awareness, strengthen emotional regulation, and create meaningful changes that support healing, resilience, and overall well-being.
Compassion Focused
As your therapist, I use Compassion-Focused Therapy to help you build a kinder relationship with yourself. Many people come to therapy carrying self-doubt, guilt, shame, or an inner critic that feels impossible to quiet. Together, we'll learn how to approach those difficult thoughts and emotions with greater understanding instead of judgment. My goal is to help you feel more emotionally grounded, increase self-compassion, and develop healthier ways of coping with life's challenges so you can move forward with greater confidence, healing, and self-acceptance.
Cognitive Processing (CPT)
As your therapist, I use Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) to help you make sense of difficult experiences that may still be impacting how you see yourself, others, and the world around you. Sometimes painful events can leave us feeling stuck in patterns of guilt, shame, self-blame, fear, or mistrust. Together, we'll explore these beliefs with curiosity and compassion, helping you challenge unhelpful thoughts and create new perspectives that support healing. My goal is to help you feel more empowered, regain a sense of safety and control, and move forward in a way that aligns with who you are today.
Humanistic
As your therapist, I use a Humanistic approach to create a space where you feel seen, heard, and accepted without judgment. I believe you are the expert on your own life, and together we will explore your experiences, emotions, strengths, and values in a way that feels authentic to you. My goal is to help you gain deeper self-understanding, build confidence in yourself, and create meaningful change that aligns with the life you want to live. Therapy is a collaborative process where growth, healing, and self-discovery can happen at your own pace.
Internal Family Systems (IFS)
As your therapist, I use Internal Family Systems (IFS) to help you better understand the different parts of yourself that show up in your daily life. You may have a part that worries, a part that people-pleases, a part that avoids conflict, or a part that carries pain from past experiences. Rather than judging these parts, we work to understand their purpose and the role they have played in helping you cope. My goal is to help you build a more compassionate relationship with yourself, heal wounded parts, and create greater balance and confidence in how you navigate life's challenges. Through this process, many clients find they feel more grounded, self-aware, and connected to who they truly are.
