Hi, my name is Marina Mosson. I am a graduate of Long Beach State University with a Master’s Degree in Social Work, and a practicing Licensed Clinical Social Worker for over 17 years. I am committed to the mental health and well-being of my clients. My passion is to help my clients navigate challenging life situations, whether they are personal, family or with peers. I strongly believe that my clients have the strengths, talents, abilities, and coping skills to face their challenges, and it is my job to assist them in accessing those strengths to solve their problems. My client and I work in a partnership when we are setting goals for therapy. I offer my clients an opportunity to create their own goals based on their values. I am there for my clients to provide feedback and gentle encouragement when faced with a complicated dilemma. Some of the therapeutic modalities I utilize are Cognitive Behavioral, Acceptance and Commitment, Person-Centered and Solution Focused Therapies and Brainspotting. I am constantly learning and reading new literature on therapeutic advancements and evidence-based practices to ensure quality of care for my clients. I am also an ADHD certified provider.
As we begin our work together, my clients can expect my undivided attention. I focus on open discussion of the presenting problem, as well as the opportunity to get to know each other to build a therapeutic alliance. Following our first session, my clients can expect an email from me with my contact information, brief description of our goals for therapy and follow up.
I have many years of experience working with a vast variety of clients in all stages of life, providing the necessary tools to manage life’s challenges. I have worked in homeless shelters, social services agencies, hospitals, nursing homes and veterans services. As an immigrant myself, I have personal experience of the challenges of navigating a new country and culture, while keeping my values and traditions intact. Outside of my professional clinical experience, I have previously been a small business owner. My personal experience in the business world gives me the ability to relate to my clients who have demanding jobs, busy schedules and high-stress environments.
Through ACT, I help individuals accept the difficulties that come with life. I teach mindfulness skills to deal with painful thoughts and feelings effectively so that they have less impact and influence. I also help individuals clarify what is truly important and meaningful to them (their values) and use that knowledge to guide, inspire, and motivate change.
I help my clients challenge and reframe negative thoughts by examining beliefs. We set specific behavioral goals and work on achieving them through homework assignments.
I provide a supportive, non-judgmental environment for clients to share their thoughts and feelings as they navigate through the intricate relationship between culture and mental health. We address cultural differences and similarities and their implication on the client's views, beliefs and treatment.
My focus is strength-based and person-centered. I have a special place in my heart for clients who are survivors of toxic relationships and find it important to work together through past trauma, finding peace and learning new skills to move forward. I also work with clients dealing with anxiety disorders, depression, mild ADHD and relationship issues by utilizing a blend of cognitive behavioral therapy and client-centered therapy to provide interventions and support. My methods promote healing and desired change in a unique, gentle and respectful manner. Compassion, empathy and a non-judgmental atmosphere are the core of my therapeutic approach.
