New to Grow
Life can be challenging, but you don't have to navigate it alone. Whether you're feeling overwhelmed by anxiety, struggling with depression, processing past trauma, facing relationship difficulties, or simply feeling stuck, I provide a supportive and nonjudgmental space where you can be yourself and focus on healing and growth. I'm Ta'Meka Gethers, MA, LPC, NCC, a Licensed Professional Counselor with over 20 years of experience helping children, adolescents, adults, older adults, and families overcome obstacles and build healthier, more fulfilling lives. My approach is compassionate, collaborative, and tailored to your unique needs. I believe that every person has strengths they can draw upon, even during life's most difficult seasons. Together, we'll work to better understand your experiences, develop practical coping skills, and create meaningful change that aligns with your goals and values. My goal is to help you feel empowered, supported, and confident in your ability to move forward.
During our first session, we'll spend time getting to know one another and discussing what brings you to therapy. I'll ask questions about your current concerns, personal history, strengths, relationships, and goals to better understand your unique experiences and what you hope to achieve through counseling. This session is also an opportunity for you to ask questions, share any concerns about the therapy process, and determine whether we're a good fit for working together. My goal is to create a welcoming, supportive, and judgment-free environment where you feel comfortable being yourself. Together, we'll begin identifying priorities and developing a plan to help you move toward the changes and outcomes that are most important to you.
I believe that meaningful change begins when you feel truly seen, heard, and understood. My goal is to create a space where you can show up authentically, without judgment, and feel supported as you navigate life's challenges. Clients often appreciate my warm, down-to-earth, and collaborative approach. I strive to balance compassion with honest feedback, helping you feel supported while also encouraging growth and progress. I understand that reaching out for therapy can be difficult, which is why I focus on building a strong therapeutic relationship where trust, respect, and open communication are at the center of our work together. What sets me apart is my ability to connect with people from all walks of life and meet them where they are. I recognize that every person's story is unique, and I tailor my approach to fit your individual needs, strengths, and goals. Rather than focusing solely on problems, I help clients recognize their resilience, build practical coping skills, and create meaningful changes that support long-term well-being. Whether you're working through a difficult season, healing from past experiences, or striving for personal growth, I am committed to helping you feel empowered, supported, and confident in your ability to move forward.
I am best positioned to work with children, adolescents, adults, older adults, and families who are seeking support to navigate life's challenges, improve emotional well-being, and create meaningful change. Many of my clients come to therapy feeling overwhelmed by anxiety, depression, trauma, stress, relationship difficulties, life transitions, grief and loss, low self-esteem, or challenges related to emotional and behavioral regulation. I have extensive experience supporting children and adolescents with behavioral and emotional concerns; adults navigating personal, professional, and family stressors; older adults adjusting to aging-related changes and life transitions; and families seeking to strengthen communication and relationships. I also have specialized experience working with individuals impacted by trauma, foster care involvement, family conflict, and significant life changes. My ideal clients are those who may feel stuck, overwhelmed, or uncertain about how to move forward but are open to self-exploration, learning new coping strategies, and working collaboratively toward their goals. Together, we will build on your strengths, increase self-awareness, and develop practical tools to help you manage challenges, improve daily functioning, and create a life that feels more fulfilling and aligned with your values.
Other specialties
I identify as
Acceptance and commitment (ACT)
In our work together, I’ll help you develop a healthier relationship with difficult thoughts and emotions so they have less control over your life. Rather than trying to get rid of uncomfortable feelings, we'll focus on building mindfulness, increasing self-awareness, and identifying what matters most to you. From there, I'll support you in taking meaningful steps toward your goals and values, even when challenges arise. This approach can be especially helpful if you're struggling with anxiety, depression, trauma, stress, life transitions, or self-esteem concerns.
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
In our work together, I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help you identify and understand the connection between your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. We will explore unhelpful thinking patterns that may be contributing to stress, anxiety, depression, or other challenges and work to replace them with more balanced and helpful perspectives. CBT is a practical, goal-oriented approach that helps you develop coping skills, improve problem-solving, and create positive changes in your daily life.
Strength-Based
In our work together, I take a strengths-based approach, which means we focus not only on the challenges you're facing but also on the strengths, skills, and resilience you already possess. Together, we'll identify what's working well, build on your existing abilities, and use those strengths to help you overcome obstacles, achieve your goals, and create meaningful change. This approach helps foster confidence, empowerment, and a greater sense of self-efficacy throughout the therapeutic process.
Dialectical Behavior (DBT)
In our work together, I use Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) to help you manage intense emotions, cope with stress, improve relationships, and develop healthier ways of responding to difficult situations. Together, we'll build practical skills in mindfulness, emotional regulation, distress tolerance, and interpersonal effectiveness so you can navigate challenges more effectively and feel more in control of your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors.
Psychoeducation
In our work together, I use psychoeducation to help you better understand your thoughts, emotions, behaviors, symptoms, and life experiences. By learning how mental health, trauma, stress, relationships, and other factors impact your well-being, you can gain greater insight, develop effective coping strategies, and feel more empowered to make informed decisions that support your growth and healing.
