Get to know me

In our first session together, here's what you can expect

What to Expect During Your First Session Your first counseling session is designed to be a safe, supportive, and comfortable space where we begin getting to know one another. The goal of the first session is not to pressure you, but rather to better understand your experiences, concerns, strengths, and goals for therapy. During the session, we may discuss: • Current emotional, behavioral, or life concerns • Personal history, relationships, and stressors • Symptoms related to anxiety, depression, ADHD, ASD, OCD, trauma, mood concerns, or other mental health experiences • Emotional regulation, communication patterns, and coping strategies • Goals you would like to work toward in therapy You are welcome to share at your own pace. There is no expectation to discuss everything immediately. Therapy is a collaborative process built on trust, respect, and understanding. Sessions are designed to be neuro-affirming, strengths-based, and individualized to your unique needs. Practical tools, emotional support, psychoeducation, and structured therapeutic approaches may be incorporated throughout treatment, including NMER (Natural Manual Emotional Reciprocity Therapy) when appropriate. The first session may also include: • Questions about medical, educational, or mental health history • Discussion of previous counseling experiences • Review of confidentiality and office policies • Initial recommendations and treatment planning Most importantly, the first session is an opportunity for you to determine whether the counseling environment feels supportive and comfortable for you.
