I am a board-certified psychiatrist and an assistant professor in the psychiatry department at Johns Hopkins. I have over 40 years of experience treating adults with mood disorders (including depression and bipolar disorder), anxiety disorders (including generalized anxiety disorder, panic disorder, social anxiety disorder, OCD, and phobias), post-partum depression, and PMS (premenstrual dysphoric disorder), . I also specialize in geriatric psychiatry. While I am an expert in medication treatment, I also provide supportive and problem-solving psychotherapy, in order to help people solve problems that are contributing to their symptoms. I consider myself a holistic doctor. I encourage mindful techniques, exercise, good nutrition, and a few herbal/over-the-counter compounds that have been studied and found to be safe and effective also. I do not treat addiction or eating disorders.
In their first session with me, patients will be given a diagnosis and treatment recommendations. The conditions I treat do not have cures, but I offer hope that I will be able to relieve their symptoms, and improve their lives.
My greatest strengths include my years of experience,, patience, empathy, and persistence. I try to find ways to connect with a wide variety of patients of diverse ages and backgrounds, while respecting appropriate boundaries.
I do my best work with patients who are aware that most psychiatric medications take a while to work, and who know that good mental health involves more than just taking medication. I welcome patients from 18 through the geriatric years.

Every time we meet, I feel like he knows and remembers me. This is not a universal trait. It is greatly appreciated.

His questions were very thorough and seems very interesting and understanding what I was trying to say and what I was asking. I am very optimistic for future appointments.
