Hello! My name is Madison Pryor, and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) and Licensed Clinical Addiction Counselor (LCAC) in the state of Indiana. I have worked in many arenas within the Behavioral Health and Addiction field, with 5+ years of experience as a therapist and many more years in other various roles over the last 10+ years, I am passionate about helping individuals navigate their healing journeys. I earned my Bachelor of Criminal Justice degree with a focus in Forensic Psychology and Addiction Counseling from Tiffin University and later obtained my Master of Social Work degree from Indiana University's School of Social Work, with a concentration in Mental Health and Addiction treatment. A few fun facts about me: I have two young kiddos who keep me laughing and on my toes! I love snuggling with my rescue pup, Zeus. When I'm not working with clients or spending time with my family, you can almost always find me with my nose in a book, listening to an audiobook, or listening to a good podcast!

Get to know me

In our first session together, here's what you can expect

Prior to our first session, I will have you complete an intake questionnaire. During our first session, we will get some of the housekeeping things out of the way first and then spend some time getting to know each other and discussing your motivations for therapy, as well as your goals for your time in therapy. This first session may feel a little more "interview like" as we review parts of the intake questionnaire together, discuss current concerns, goals, etc. but will still be very conversational. I will also ensure that you have some time to ask questions about the therapeutic process and provide any additional information that would be helpful and pertinent for us to work together effectively. At the end of the session we will discuss frequency and duration of appointments and what these appointments will look like going forward!

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

As a therapist, I believe in meeting you where you are. You are the expert of your own story, and I am here to help you tap into your strengths and the knowledge you already hold to promote healing. Together, we can work through the challenges you face, while I offer guidance, tools, and perspective along the way. I work from a collaborative approach that is more conversational, however conversational with a purpose, but I adapt my level of structure and directness based on what you find most helpful. I work from a very empathetic and supportive stance, however will also provide direct feedback in a therapeutic manner when it is necessary. I utilize a variety of therapeutic techniques, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), Client-centered/Persona therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Narrative Therapy, trauma-informed therapy, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). At times I may assign "between-session work," if it will be of benefit, as I believe that practicing the things discussed in therapy in your day-to-day life is a very beneficial thing. I am always open to feedback from my clients regarding things they believe will help them that they would like from me as their therapist. I also encourage my clients to approach me with any concerns that they have so that we can discuss them and problem-solve together.

The clients I'm best positioned to serve

I specialize in working with clients living with stress and anxiety, those who are struggling with addiction and/or are in recovery from addiction, family members of those living in addiction, and life transitions. I also enjoy working with and have training working with individuals who are looking for help with interpersonal and relationship issues, grief and loss, coping with medical/physical health conditions, as well as, traumatic experiences and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Taking the first step to sign up for therapy takes a lot of courage, and I am proud of you for getting started. I look forward to working with you!

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) as a primary modality to help clients identify and challenge unhelpful thought patterns that influence their emotions and behaviors. We do this through conversations, cognitive restructuring, and behavioral interventions, to help clients develop healthier ways of thinking, build insight and self-awareness, develop practical coping mechanisms, and create lasting changes by learning how their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors are connected to help them better respond to life's challenges.

Motivational Interviewing

In my practice, I utilize Motivational Interviewing (MI) to support clients in exploring and resolving ambivalence toward change. Utilizing reflections, summaries, and affirmations, I collaborate with my clients to identify their values, goals, and motivations toward positive change in their life. Not only does this allow us to understand why the client wants to make the change, but it offers an empowering approach to increase confidence and self-efficacy to actually make the necessary change and be able to maintain it. I have obtained an endorsement in my use of Motivational Interviewing.

Narrative

I often incorporate Narrative Therapy with CBT and MI approaches in order to help my clients explore and reshape the stories they tell and believe about themselves. Together we will identify the main narratives that may be limiting growth and contributing to distress. With open dialogue and reflective and Socratic questioning, I support my clients in externalizing problems and re-authoring their story in a way that aligns with their values, strengths, and preferred outcomes. This approach promotes empowerment, self-awareness, and encourages meaningful change by honoring their voice and experiences.
