Sarah Webber
As a therapist I am here to create a safe, brave, and trusting environment that allows clients to unload their thought and emotions while empowering them in a genuine, straightforward and relaxed atmosphere to step into the brave space where they are able to begin identifying the barriers to living the life they want, learn to overcome, and start aligning their lives to their values. My therapeutic approaches is rooted in acceptance and commitment therapy with aspects of internal family system, solution focused, and mindfulness techniques. We all have unique needs and my integrative model of treatment is tailored to best fit each individual client. This therapy starts with the client learning how to accept where they are in this moment while also knowing they need to identify and make changes to get to where they want to be. It is then when the real work begins. The work of freeing themselves from the persistent negative thoughts and constant societal pressures holding them back from living the life they have always wanted. During therapy, you will never have to pick and choose the parts of you to reveal, as you will be accepted just as you are. As a sex positive, gender and LGBTQIA+ affirming therapist I enjoy working with individuals and couples facing a multitude of different life challenges. Additionally, I have a clinical interest in supporting those in polyamorous relationships, practicing consensual non-monogamy, kink, and sex work. Taking the leap to reach out for help is a brave first step. Therapy often challenges and pushes us into that uncomfortable space, but my hope is that you will walk away with a feeling of clarity, identity, and belonging.
First session
During this first session, I’ll ask questions to help me better understand your current concerns, personal history, relationships, and life circumstances. This may include questions about your current emotional state, past and current family dynamics, family history, stressors, coping strategies, any previous experiences with mental health services, and identified goals for therapy. This first session can at times feel overwhelming and intrusive and my goal is to balance gathering the information that will be helpful for me while moving at a pace that feels comfortable for you. This first session is also for you as the client to learn about me, including how I show up in the sessions, my style, and therapeutic modalities. I believe that therapy works best when both client and therapist feel they will be able to form an effective and safe therapeutic relationship. The therapy sessions are client focused, meaning my feelings should not be part of the equation in you determining fit. I would never want to be the reason a person doesn't return to therapy, nor would I want a client to feel obligated to stay in sessions with me because they don't want to hurt my feelings. The first session is also where we will begin identifying goals for therapy. While some client's will come to this initial session with goals already identified. It is also important to note that there is no requirement for coming with any goals. Doing the work of showing up is enough and we will together work on identifying goals. The intake session is also used to determine whether telehealth treatment is clinically appropriate for your needs and whether insurance medical necessity criteria are met for ongoing services. Insurance companies generally require a clinically appropriate mental health diagnosis and supporting documentation in order to authorize and reimburse treatment. If services are requested but insurance criteria are not met, clients may still choose to continue services on a self-pay basis. The self-pay fee for a 60-minute individual therapy session is $160. I will also review several important practice policies with you, including: Mandated reporting- I will provide a detailed scope of what client disclosures fall under mandated reporting laws, adhering to state and federal laws. Telehealth Policy – Telehealth sessions must be conducted from a private location with a stable internet connection to ensure confidentiality and clinical effectiveness. Sessions may not be conducted while driving, riding in a moving vehicle, shopping, actively working, or while interacting with others in public or professional settings. Late Cancellation and No-Show Policy – Appointments are reserved specifically for you and require at least 24 hours’ notice to cancel or reschedule. A grace period of up to 15 minutes will be provided in accordance with platform policy. However, sessions cannot be extended beyond the originally scheduled appointment time, as doing so would delay care for other clients scheduled for that time. Clients who do not attend their scheduled appointment or who are 15 minutes late or more may be considered a no-show and may be subject to a late cancellation/no-show fee of up to $160, depending on insurance and payor guidelines.
Strengths
As a therapist, I work best by fostering self awareness and self-compassion. My style is warm, relaxed, compassionate, and conversational, while I am also honest and focus on gently challenging maladaptive thoughts and patterns . I do more than simply listen; I guide client's in aligning actionable values to thoughts and actions, through the work of acceptance and commitment therapy.
Ideal clients
My ideal clients are individuals who are ready, or beginning to feel ready to start exploring and identifying the barriers they experience that prevent them from living a more balanced, fulfilling, and authentic life. Many of the individuals I work with come in feeling unsatisfied with the way they are walking through their lives. Feeling emotionally overwhelmed and exhausted, knowing they need and desire change, but not always knowing where to begin or how to do it on their own. I work especially well with individuals exploring identity and self-acceptance, including LGBTQ+ clients, client's exploring Kink, Ethical non-monogamy, and polyamory. Navigating identity questions, coming out, or living authentically can bring both growth and stress, particularly when family, cultural expectations, or societal pressures are involved. My ideal clients want a safe, affirming space where they can explore who they are without judgment, build confidence, and strengthen their sense of self. I am well established working with individuals navigating relationship challenges including communication difficulties, infidelity, imbalance in division of physical, mental, and/or emotional labor, sexual desire discrepancies, and parenting dynamics. I also work with clients coping with grief and loss. Loss can take many forms, including the death of a loved one, the end of a relationship, changes in health, loss of a future you once imagined, and loss of identity during and after life transitions such as retirement or children leaving the home. I also work well with client's experiencing life transitions which can result in feelings of overwhelm and uncertainty. Many of my individual client's face the societal pressures of feeling positive during transitions while being unsure how to navigate the less desired feelings that can come from change. I also work well with client's navigating life with ADHD, anxiety, uncertain career paths, and burnout.
Treatment methods
Acceptance and commitment (ACT)
My work through ACT is guiding client's in the process of embracing difficult thoughts and emotions instead of trying to deny or suppress them. Maintaining open, non-judgmental contact with the current moment. Recognizing that you are the observer of your experiences, not solely defined by your thoughts or feelings. Values: Defining what is most important to you in different life domains. Taking concrete steps guided by your personal values
