Hi, I'm Conner! I'm a social worker and I've been practicing counseling for four years. The bulk of my professional career has been in treating substance abuse issues. However, I think the foundations of that treatment can apply to just about anyone. If you're finding yourself stuck in the same cycle over and over again, I believe I can help you break out of it. Whether it be anxious tendencies, addictive behaviors, or relationship conflicts, I've found an ability to help people recognize negative patterns and take steps to find a new path forward when they're ready. During therapy sessions I've often helped clients process the pains that came before and after addiction, along with envisioning the future they hope to find in sobriety. Addiction aside, my goal is to help people reveal and release their emotional burdens so they can work toward the life they really want.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

Therapy can be scary initially, because in the beginning it revolves around identifying problems rather than solving them. Thankfully, that's only step one. In our first session, I would get to know a little bit about you and the concerns you've been facing. I'm well versed in assessments and evaluations to help us find the right place to start. From there, we can create a plan together for how to address those issues during appointments as well as your everyday life.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

I've found in counseling that my biggest strength is often my humanity. I have hobbies, I make mistakes, and I'm certainly not immune to life's woes. I hope to provide a safe space where you can embrace your humanity, find forgiveness when necessary, and work toward a better version of yourself. I also consider myself to be a straight shooter. If I see something, I’ll gently and thoughtfully offer my opinion on a situation or problem. While I don’t think therapy is about giving advice, I think openness is the most important element. I want to be honest with you and give you the opportunity to do so in return.

Describe the client(s) you are best positioned to serve.

In my experience with substance abuse counseling I’ve relied heavily on motivational interviewing. This approach is great for people who are not sure where to start and those who know the exact direction they want to go in therapy. Whether you know what’s bothering you or you’re struggling to identify the issue, I’m here to help. I love working with teens and adults, and pride myself on especially helping those who feel lost and want clarity in doing the next right thing for their lives.

My treatment methods

Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy

I have used Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT) with nearly all of my clients at some point during our counseling together. I've found its skills to be easy to understand and effective for solving short-term problems and even changing long-term patterns of depression, anxiety, and destructive behavior. We'll lean on the ABC model of REBT to identify negative beliefs, develop healthier thoughts and behaviors, and create positive life change.

Motivational Interviewing

My work as a substance abuse counselor has relied heavily on Motivational Interviewing (MI), but I believe it can benefit anyone. With MI we'll tap into your motivation for making a change by using empathy and self-efficacy to identify your strengths and take the next steps.

Family Therapy

I've found in my practice that family therapy can be helpful for even the most functional households. Whether as an entire family unit or between two people, I've used family counseling for the past three years. In family counseling sessions we would address communication styles, resolve conflicts, and create a a more cohesive and collaborative family environment.
