Melissa Munger

LCSW (she/her)7 years of experience

Hi, I’m Melissa, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in Connecticut. I work with adults navigating anxiety, stress, and life transitions. My approach is warm, straightforward, and practical, with a focus on helping you feel supported while also gaining tools and direction. I provide a space where you can talk things through, process what’s going on, and gain clarity. At the same time, I help you build coping skills and make realistic changes that fit your life. Therapy with me is collaborative and tailored to what works best for you.

First session

The first session is a chance for us to get to know each other and talk about what brings you in. We’ll go over your background, what you’re looking for, and what you’d like to get out of therapy. There’s no pressure to share everything all at once. I’ll also explain how I work, answer any questions you have, and we can start to get a sense of what feels helpful for you. It’s a relaxed, conversational space where you can begin to feel comfortable and decide if this feels like a good fit.

Strengths

One of my strengths is being able to balance being supportive and understanding while also being direct and practical. I help you make sense of what’s going on and offer tools you can actually use in your daily life. Clients often find me down to earth, genuine, and easy to talk to. I focus on helping you feel heard while also supporting you in making meaningful, realistic changes that move you forward.

Ideal clients

I work best with adults who are navigating everyday stress, anxiety, or life transitions. Many are managing their responsibilities but feel overwhelmed, stuck, or unsure how to move forward. They’re looking for a supportive space to talk things through, gain perspective, and build practical coping skills. My ideal clients are open to self-reflection and interested in making meaningful, realistic changes. They’re looking for support, guidance, and tools to feel more balanced and in control in their day-to-day lives.

Treatment methods

Supportive

I offer a supportive space to talk things through, process what’s going on, and gain perspective. My approach is warm, straightforward, and practical. I also provide tools and direction when you’re ready. Together, we build coping skills and make realistic changes that fit your life.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

CBT focuses on how your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors are connected. We’ll work on identifying unhelpful patterns and replacing them with more balanced, realistic thinking that supports how you want to feel and function.

Strength-Based

A strengths-based approach focuses on what’s already working and building from there. We’ll identify your strengths, use them to support growth, and create practical steps that help you move forward in a way that feels realistic and achievable.

Mindfulness-Based Therapy

Mindfulness and grounding techniques help you stay present and manage stress in the moment. These tools can help you feel more present, less overwhelmed, and better able to handle what’s coming up day to day.
