Lyn McCall
My name is Lyn and I am licensed in both Marriage and Family Therapy and Substance Use/Addiction Therapy. I have been working as a therapist for the past 32 years. My work focuses on a variety of issues: addiction, anxiety, depression, OCD, PTSD, and gender identity, just to name a few. I create a space where you can explore these challenges and work toward meaningful change. Influenced by my own family struggles and coming from a long family history of addiction, I was naturally attracted to the mental health field. I want to teach others that they can overcome and get through whatever life throws at them.
First session
Starting therapy is similar to starting with a new doctor. My initial meeting is used to collect information on your history, to find out what you believe the problem to be, and to help you identify your short-term and long-term goals.
Strengths
My strengths are in addiction and co-occurring mental health disorders, Family therapy and trauma therapy and this has been my focus throughout my career. I am comfortable working with adults, both male and female, and I tailor my approach to meet each person where they are. I start by asking clients what their overall goal really is. Identifying a starting point is next. Helping your clients face and understand exactly where they are in terms of this goal is a good place to start. They must be honest with themselves as well by examining where things currently stand.
Ideal clients
I specialize in working with adults experiencing anxiety, trauma, and addiction. This includes trauma survivors, individuals navigating substance use or addictive behaviors, and family members impacted by a loved one’s addiction. I understand that these challenges can feel overwhelming and isolating, and I strive to create a supportive, nonjudgmental space where clients feel genuinely seen and understood. My approach is rooted in a humanistic perspective, emphasizing empathy, authenticity, and respect for each person’s unique experience. I also incorporate EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) to help clients process and heal from distressing or traumatic experiences. Together, we work to build insight, develop practical coping strategies, and foster meaningful, lasting change. Whether you are working through past trauma, managing anxiety in your daily life, or navigating the complexities of addiction and its impact on relationships, I aim to support you in building resilience, clarity, and a stronger sense of self.
Treatment methods
EMDR
I use this with clients with PTSD or issues related to traumatic events
Dialectical Behavior (DBT)
I use DBT to help individuals build a "life worth living" by balancing two seemingly opposite concepts: acceptance (validated through mindfulness) and change (achieved through behavioral skills).
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
I use this treatment modality to solve current problems by changing unhelpful patterns of thinking (cognition) and behavior.
Gestalt
I use this treatment modality to help individuals increase self-awareness and personal responsibility by focusing on the "here and now"
Experiential Therapy
This therapy is used to help individuals access and process subconscious emotions that are difficult to express through traditional talk therapy alone.
