Cicely Hooten
Hello and welcome! I’m a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner with more than 16 years of experience in behavioral health. My career began as a registered nurse, and my passion for providing compassionate, accessible mental health care inspired me to advance my training and expertise. I believe every person’s story is unique and deserves to be heard and respected. My approach centers on building genuine connections, fostering a supportive environment, and working together to help you reach your goals. I am dedicated to creating a space where you feel valued, understood, and empowered on your journey toward well-being. I look forward to partnering with you and supporting you every step of the way.
I draw on my natural ability to find common ground and build rapport, blending this with clinical expertise to create a truly individualized experience.
First session
From the moment you arrive for your first psychiatric medication management appointment, my goal is to create a welcoming and supportive space where you feel at ease. We’ll take time to get to know each other, focusing on what matters most to you and what brings you in for care. I want to hear about your experiences, your concerns, and your hopes for treatment. Together, we’ll explore your goals and address any questions you may have. Based on our conversation, we’ll develop a treatment plan that is thoughtfully tailored to your unique needs. Throughout the process, I provide clear information and guidance about your options, so you feel informed and empowered every step of the way. Above all, I want you to feel comfortable, heard, and confident as we work together to support your mental health and overall well-being.

Treatment methods
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
I utilize CBT to identify cognitive distortions and maladaptive behaviors in patients. This can help tailor treatment plans to individual needs. I work collaboratively with patients to set specific, measurable, achievable, goals. This helps in tracking progress and maintaining motivation. We use the introduction of new skills, homework, thought records, etc. to encourage patient engagement.
Interpersonal
We focus on improving interpersonal relationships and social functioning to alleviate symptoms of mental health disorders. I use empathy to validate the patient's experiences. We practice and discuss new communication in efforts to resolve interpersonal conflicts and improve communication.
Mindfulness-Based Therapy
I use mindfulness techniques during therapy sessions to help patients become more aware of their thoughts, emotions, and physical sensations. We practice simple mindfulness exercises such as mindful breathing, guided meditations. I also encourage patients to integrate mindfulness into their daily routines by practicing mindful eating, walking, or listening which can enhance self-awareness and emotional regulation.
Supportive
I focus on building a strong provider-patient relationship through empathy, active listening, and validation. This creates a safe and supportive environment for patients to explore their concerns. I offer encouragement and positive reinforcement to boost patients’ confidence and motivation. Recognize their strengths and progress to foster a sense of accomplishment. I educate patients on their conditions and treatment options - empowering them.
