Shannon Kelaita
I offer an open, accepting, and encouraging space designed to help you discover your strengths and thrive. This approach is shaped by 12 years of practice as a therapist and over 30 years of calling rural California home. My clinical background spans county behavioral health, local schools, hospital social work, and medical clinics.
A non-judgmental and open-minded therapist continuously learning new ways to support you in getting unstuck, navigating life's challenges, and finding your direction.
Moving at your pace, my objective is to support your well-being and help you successfully navigate life's challenges.
First session
In our first session, we will focus on building rapport and getting comfortable working together. We will map out your goals and define what a better future looks like for you. Before you leave, I will make sure you have a specific tool or takeaway you can use immediately to start finding your direction.
Strengths
As a non-judgmental and accepting therapist, my strength is finding the good in people and empowering them to lead their own healing. I don't pretend to have all the answers; I humbly respect that you know your life best. I am constantly learning new ways to better support my clients, and I truly appreciate my clients' humor, believing that therapy can and should be a little fun.
Ideal clients
I specialize in helping people who feel lost, depressed, or disconnected from themselves build confidence and find clear direction. My practice is well-suited for individuals navigating feelings of being stuck, life-direction challenges, or a history of trauma. Whether you are dealing with everyday life stressors or processing past experiences, these challenges impact self-image and daily functioning. My training and background allow me to help you navigate these feelings, recognize your true value, and build a solid foundation for the future.
Treatment methods
Acceptance and commitment (ACT)
ACT helps you stop fighting difficult thoughts so they lose their power. We use anchoring tools to keep you present and handle challenges without getting overwhelmed. Together, we clarify what matters most so you can move forward with confidence.
Attachment-based
This approach explores how your early relationships shape how you connect with others today. We look at your past experiences to understand your current relationship patterns and emotional habits. Together, we work to build a secure sense of safety within yourself so you can form healthier, more confident connections.
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
CBT helps you notice how negative or stuck thinking patterns affect your mood and actions. We work together to catch those unhelpful thoughts and break the habits that keep you down. You will gain practical, daily tools to change your mindset and handle life's challenges more easily.
EMDR
EMDR helps your brain process painful or traumatic memories so they lose their emotional intensity. We use simple tapping or eye movements to help you untangle past experiences that keep you feeling stuck today. This process lowers the distress tied to those memories, helping you find relief and move forward.
Internal Family Systems (IFS)
IFS helps you explore and understand the different parts of your personality, like an inner critic or the part carrying stress. Instead of fighting these inner voices, we work to lower internal conflict and understand their roles. This helps you access your calm, core self so you can lead your own healing and feel more balanced.
