Martina Frins
My name is Martina Frins. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with 15 years of experience specializing in supporting adults through life's most challenging transitions and mental health concerns. My practice focuses on creating a safe, compassionate, and collaborative space where we can uncover the root of what is holding you back.
Recognizing when you need help is not a sign of weakness - it shows strength and courage. Prioritize your well-being.
I provide effective, evidence-based support for individuals managing anxiety, depression, career changes, relationship issues, and chronic health concerns. Utilizing Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), I work collaboratively with you to identify unhelpful though patterns, develop practical coping strategies, and build resilience needed to thrive.
First session
The first therapy session is primarily an intake and foundation-building meeting rather than a deep dive into solving major problems right away. We will review of informed consent, the strict limits of confidentiality, fees, and scheduling logistics. This first session will establish an empathetic, non-judgmental space where the client can feel safe. They will have a collaborative exploration of what brought them to therapy, their current symptoms, background history (relationships, upbringing, work, etc.), and their inherent strengths. The client will identify what they hope to achieve, which acts as an initial roadmap or blueprint for future sessions. This session will also provide an opportunity for the client to ask questions and evaluate whether my style, personality, and approach feel like a good mutual match.
Strengths
I have an extensive background with life-limiting and chronic illnesses like HIV/AIDS, cancer, and End Stage Renal Disease. I offer clients a safe space where they can voice their deepest fears about loss of independence, healthy self, career, or future plans. I deeply understand how physical illness, medication side effects, and chronic pain intertwine with mental health. I help clients navigate these life transitions, rebuild their identity after a shattering diagnosis, and find meaning and autonomy with severe physical or external limitations.
Ideal clients
My ideal client is someone who is ready to actively engage in the therapeutic process, look inward, and complete between-session interventions. They seek support for anxiety, depression, career changes, relationship issues, chronic health concerns, or a combination of these. They already know how to trust and communicate, which makes it easy for us to build a safe, collaborative relationship. They respect my clinical boundaries, show up to appointments consistently, and view therapy as a vital investment in their well-being.
Treatment methods
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a structured form of talk therapy that helps you change unhelpful habits and negative thinking patterns so you can feel better. It focuses heavily on your current life rather than digging into your past.
