Hello! I'm a bubbly, laid-back person who also believes in the importance of assertive communication. I love meeting new people of different cultural backgrounds. In my practice, I enjoy working with people who are adjusting to a new life, including teenagers, young adults, and older adults. Transitions can be extremely difficult leading to trouble making decisions, worry, depression, and substance abuse. It can be difficult to function well or thrive while adjusting to life right outside of college or adapting to retirement life after a full-time career of many years. Finding your way can be an exciting journey yet also bring about anxiety you may have never experienced before. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in the states of Texas and Colorado (currently only seeing Colorado clients). I received my Bachelor of Arts in Psychology at The University of Texas at Austin and obtained my Master of Science in Counseling at The University of North Texas. I have 14 years of experience working in the mental health/substance use field and have been in private practice for 3 years.

Get to know me

In our first session together, here's what you can expect

The first session is a great time to get to know each other. I'd like to know specific things you'd like to work on together and will address any questions and/or concerns you have.

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

I collaborate with you to help address how to best help your needs. Being open and honest is very important in every session. I welcome feedback from you, whether you need me to be more directive/assertive with you to help keep you accountable or more laid-back while you find what works for you. I believe using a holistic approach is important in helping clients manage their daily stressors, anxiety, and depressive symptoms. I use an eclectic approach to promote self-care, self-acceptance, and empowerment.

The clients I'm best positioned to serve

I enjoy working with clients who want to learn tools to increase their self-acceptance. It is important for my clients to give themselves grace, be patient with themselves, and trust the process. It is important for clients to be motivated to apply skills to help manage their depression, anxiety, and/or addictions although it is normal to have ambivalence about whether the tools will work. I also aim to empower my clients to be their most authentic self, whether that be by finding answers to existential questions, increasing healthy boundaries, or feeling more confident about their uniqueness as human being.

My treatment methods

Person-centered (Rogerian)

I use an individualistic and collaborative approach in my practice. I believe each client holds the key to their own growth. By prioritizing the person first, I hope to establish a comfortable therapeutic relationship where change can happen.

Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy

This type of therapy, also known as REBT, is a more directive approach where I help clients challenge any thoughts that are causing distress. I help clients focus on their underlying thoughts and beliefs systems that are hindering their growth. People experience many events in their lives, and negative events can lead to negative thoughts about themselves, people, or the world. Negative thoughts can be challenged by replacing them with a more realistic and/or positive way of thinking. I hope to help you find positive affirmations that can contribute to your growth and change any self-defeating patterns.

Eclectic

In addition to the treatment methods above, I like to incorporate several others, including: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (to promote tools to use daily), exposure therapy (for clients who have phobias/fears, obsessions and/or compulsions, passive communication styles), motivational interviewing (to help find tools that have helped clients in the past to move forward, whether it be to more forward toward sobriety or healthier behaviors), and an existential approach (to help clients find more meaning to their lives.)
