New to Grow
My name is Priscilla Tixi, and I have my masters in Mental Health Counseling. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in New Jersey and a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC) in Maine. I have worked in the mental health field for 10 years, primarily for non-profit agencies, and 5 of those years as a mental health therapist. I provide individual therapy for adults 18 and up. I will support you through life's complexities. My approach centers on understanding your unique journey and offering compassionate, person centered, and solution-focused care that will honor your experiences. My expertise spans a wide range of focus areas, including but not limited to anxiety, depression, workplace/home life challenges, trauma recovery, stress, relationship dynamics, personal growth, women's issues, grief, navigating significant life transitions, etc. My therapeutic style emphasizes empowerment, self-discovery, and healing. I create a supportive environment where you can explore your emotions, develop meaningful coping strategies, and cultivate greater self-understanding. I'm dedicated to walking alongside you with empathy and professional guidance. I look forward to working with you!
During our first session, I will take time to get to know you, the client. I will ask a series of questions to understand what brings you to therapy and together we will identify your goals. We will review what therapy entails, confidentiality, and answer any questions you may have about therapy or myself. This is the start of building a positive therapeutic relationship and creating a safe space for you to address your concerns.
I use an eclectic/integrative approach to therapy. I will incorporate different treatment modalities (CBT, SFT, person centered, faith based, etc.) in our sessions, and we will identify what combination of approaches are best for you. I am warm, understanding, direct, and will challenge you when appropriate. Our sessions will be a safe space for you to get proper care, and I am open to any suggestions. If something doesn't work for you, feel free to let me know. I am reliable and consistent. Lets put in the work together!
Clients who are eager to put in the work to get better and are open minded about the therapeutic process. It's okay if it took a while to come around to the idea of therapy. You're here now and that's what matters! Client concerns/goals addressing: anxiety, depression, life transitions/adjustments, grief, interpersonal relationships/conflicts, self esteem, work issues, stress, trauma, problem solving strategies, wanting to learn coping skills, improve communication/assertiveness, sleep hygiene, self care, and emotional regulation.
Person-centered (Rogerian)
I use a person-centered approach as one of my main treatment methods to create a safe, supportive space where you can explore your thoughts and feelings without fear of judgment. I believe that you are the expert on your own life, and my role is to listen with empathy, understand your perspective, and support you in discovering your own solutions. Rather than directing or advising, I work alongside you—helping you build self-awareness, confidence, and a deeper sense of trust in yourself as you move toward meaningful change.
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
Another effective treatment method I use is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). It will help you better understand how your thoughts, emotions, and behaviors are connected. Together, we’ll identify patterns that may be contributing to stress or challenges in your life and work to develop more balanced, helpful ways of thinking and responding. This approach is practical and goal-oriented, often involving strategies you can apply in your daily life to create meaningful change. My aim is to support you in building effective coping skills, increasing self-awareness, and feeling more in control of your thoughts and experiences.
Solution Focused Brief Treatment
One of my favorite methods of treatment is Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) because it will help you identify your strengths and focus on practical solutions rather than dwelling on problems. Together, we’ll explore what’s already working in your life and build on those successes to create meaningful change. This approach is goal-oriented and future-focused, helping you clarify what you want to achieve and take small, manageable steps toward it. My role is to support and guide you as you recognize your own abilities and develop strategies that move you toward the life you want.
Trauma-Focused CBT
I use Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) to support individuals in processing and healing from difficult or traumatic experiences. This approach combines coping skills with gradual, supportive exploration of past experiences to help reduce distress and build resilience. Together, we’ll work on understanding how trauma may impact thoughts, feelings, and behaviors, while developing healthy ways to manage emotions and feel more in control. I move at a pace that feels safe for you, creating a supportive environment where healing and growth can take place.
Faith based therapy
I have recently started to offer faith-based therapy in my practice, more specifically Christian/Catholic based, for those who wish to incorporate their spiritual or religious beliefs into the healing process. This approach integrates emotional and psychological support with your personal values and faith, helping you find meaning, strength, and guidance through both. Together, we can explore challenges in a way that aligns with your beliefs, drawing on spiritual resources such as prayer, reflection, or scripture if that feels meaningful to you. My goal is to provide a respectful, supportive space where your faith is honored as an important part of your overall well-being.
