20 years of experience

I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) with over 15 years of clinical experience in a variety of settings including both inpatient and outpatient units, community mental health clinics and correctional facilities. I have experience providing individual and group treatment for patients and families. I strive to provide a safe space for self-exploration and I have solid diagnostic and assessment skills. This allows for a keen understanding of the person and the modality that will allow the client to meet their clinical goals. I believes that a core underpinning of treatment is respecting each individual's uniqueness and working collaboratively to build resilience and discover individual strengths. I have long been an advocate for the underserved and marginalized in our society and have worked to decrease the stigma associated with mental health treatment.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

We will begin with a friendly introduction, creating a comfortable atmosphere for you to share your thoughts and feelings. I will review confidentiality policies as well as the professional boundaries of a therapeutic relationship. I will conduct a comprehensive intake interview and explore your goals and expectations for therapy. We will also discuss your history of mental health treatment and any medications you have utilized. Building a therapeutic alliance begins in the first session and I will work to establish a connection that fosters trust and understanding. Clients are encouraged to share only what they are comfortable discussing and can always opt out of answering any inquiry. Identifying the client's most important goals for therapy and the reason they decided to start therapy at this time.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

Having worked as a mental health professional for over 15 years I am able to create a safe, non-judgmental space for clients to explore and identify areas for growth. My professional experience has been varied and has allowed me to grow as a therapist and person. I am empathetic and believe in a client's right to self determination. I am dedicated, curious and a life-long learner.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I have been utilizing the CBT to assist patients in understanding the interplay between their thoughts, feelings and behaviors. Nurturing an awareness of the powerful impact our cognitions have on our life experience can be the beginning of change. Learning to challenge our thoughts can help to alleviate suffering and allow for healthy growth.

I believe in a client centered approach to therapy and adopt a holistic approach that focuses on self-determination, self exploration and self- guided goal setting to meet ones potential. I think that a core underpinning of treatment is respecting each individual's uniqueness and working collaboratively with them to build resilience and discover their strengths.

Acceptance and commitment (ACT)

I encourage clients to accept their life circumstances, without judgement, while exploring appropriate behavioral change strategies to implement desired change. Mindfulness strategies are utilized to optimize well being and increase psychological flexibility.

I have significant experience with Eclectic Therapy as it is often the case that a person will benefit from the use of helping strategies from multiple modalities. This flexible and multifaceted approach has been instrumental in addressing the unique needs of my clients. Instead of adhering to a single style of treatment, Eclectic Therapy allows me to use the most effective methods available to address each individual client's needs. Often also referred to as Multi-modal or Integrative Therapy.
