Hi, I’m Tonia—licensed professional counselor and founder of Therapy with Tonia. I’m licensed in Texas and bring 15 years of combined experience as a school counselor and clinical therapist. Though I started my career in public education, I’ve transitioned fully into professional counseling and deeply enjoy working with clients navigating stress, transitions, and emotional overwhelm. My therapeutic style is warm, collaborative, and rooted in trust. I help high-functioning adults and professionals manage anxiety, relationship challenges, family dynamics, and symptoms of depression. Whether you’re dealing with internal pressure, burnout, or people-pleasing patterns, we’ll work together to slow down, unpack what’s underneath, and create tools that work in real life. I strive to create a space where you can be honest, feel heard, and begin to rewrite what healing looks like for you—at your pace and on your terms.
In the first session, clients can expect a warm and welcoming environment where they will have the opportunity to share their concerns and goals in a confidential setting. We will discuss their reasons for seeking therapy, explore their past experiences, and identify areas of focus for our work together. Additionally, I will explain the therapeutic process, answer any questions they may have, and collaboratively establish a treatment plan tailored to their individual needs. Overall, the first session is dedicated to building rapport, establishing trust, and laying the foundation for a successful therapeutic relationship.
My counseling style is witty and enthusiastic, and those that either know me personally or have worked with me professionally would say that I am supportive, committed, and an advocate for positive mental health experiences. Our therapeutic process will be guided by goal setting and establishing strategies and skills to help reach the desired outcome. Remember, where there is hope, there is help, and we will work together towards positive change.
I am best positioned to serve clients who are seeking support with managing anxiety, depression, or ADHD. My expertise lies in utilizing evidence-based approaches such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to address these mental health concerns effectively. I am particularly adept at working with individuals who are motivated to engage in therapy, collaborate on treatment goals, and actively participate in the therapeutic process to achieve meaningful and sustainable outcomes.

Cognitive therapy, also known as CBT, helps you understand the connection between your thoughts, feelings, and actions. By working together, we identify any negative or unhelpful thoughts that might be causing distress or holding you back. Through practical techniques and tools, we'll challenge those thoughts and replace them with more positive and realistic ones, leading to improved emotional well-being and healthier behaviors.
