Joseph Onwuka
Hello, My name is Joseph, I am an Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. I work with individuals to regain their functionality and overcome their challenges in many areas of life.
First session
Client will expect a brief introduction, followed by an assessment interview. This involves asking questions about the current mental and emotional state, past experiences, and reasons for seeking treatment. This will create a relaxing non-judgemental environment where client will trust that he is listened to.
Strengths
I have individualized my treatment and always give the clients the opportunity to make input in their treatment. I observed that individuals are more likely to be engaged in treatment when their opinions are considered first before making any health decision that concerns them.
Ideal clients
I love working with all individuals facing challenges in some areas of life, but most inclined to helping the younger ones because of their vulnerability.
Treatment methods
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
I have used Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) in helping individuals identify and change negative thought patterns and behaviors that contribute to their emotional distress and psychological problems. It is based on the premise that our thoughts, feelings, and behaviors are interconnected, and by altering negative thought patterns and replacing them with more constructive ones, individuals can improve their mental well-being. I have used CBT in a wide range of mental health conditions, including depression, anxiety disorders (such as generalized anxiety disorder and social anxiety disorder), post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). CBT is evidence-based and has been shown to be effective in helping individuals manage their symptoms, improve their coping skills, and enhance their overall quality of life. I also apply individualized approach in my treatment methods.
