Hello! I am the founder of Lighthouse Counseling of San Antonio, PLLC. Here is a little bit of information on my professional background and interest. I am an Asian American, Licensed Professional Counselor Supervisor (LPC-S) here in San Antonio. I studied at The University of Texas at San Antonio, and obtained my undergraduate degree in Psychology, and my graduate degree in Community Counseling. I take pride in using my education and skills learned to provide culturally sensitive counseling services to clients here in San Antonio and virtually to anyone in the state of Texas. My focus is working with adults who face hardships. Basically any hardship that may cause or be accompanied by potential, existing, or chronic mental health related conditions, such as depression, anxiety, substance abuse or alcohol addiction, unresolved or complicated grief, family issues, or difficult experiences. I try to meet clients where they are in their process, explore their concerns, and provide a safe and therapeutic space for them to talk about their experiences. I use a variety of approaches specific to their needs, which may include Cognitive Behavioral therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Person-Centered Therapy, and Solution-Focused therapy.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

In our first session, clients can expect a welcoming introduction where we discuss their goals and concerns. We'll explore their background and current challenges, clarify how counseling works, and establish a supportive relationship. Together, we'll set goals for therapy and discuss initial insights and strategies. I'll address any questions they have and plan our next steps, ensuring they feel understood and empowered to begin their journey towards positive change.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

As a counselor, my greatest strengths lie in my ability to empathize deeply with my clients and create a supportive environment where they feel heard and understood. I excel in active listening, which allows me to tune into clients' concerns and emotions effectively. I am skilled in fostering empowerment by recognizing and building on clients' strengths, helping them envision and achieve positive changes in their lives. I value diversity and strive to adapt my approach to meet the unique cultural and personal needs of each client while maintaining strict ethical standards and boundaries. Collaboration is essential to my practice, as I work alongside clients in setting goals and navigating challenges together. Continuous self-awareness and learning ensure that I provide the most effective and current support possible.

Describe the client(s) you are best positioned to serve.

I enjoy working with adult clients who are motivated for change, willing and motivated to engage in the counseling process, they recognize the need for support and are open to exploring their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors to achieve personal growth or resolution of issues. I also enjoy working with clients who are self-reflective, where they have some level of self-awareness and are willing to reflect on their experiences, emotions, and patterns of behavior. This self-reflection helps in identifying areas for improvement or change. I appreciate working with clients who are open to therapeutic feedback and are receptive to feedback and different perspectives provided by the counselor. They are open to exploring new ways of thinking or behaving, even if it challenges their current beliefs or habits. Clients who are committed to therapy and they prioritize attending sessions regularly and actively participate in the therapeutic process. They understand that change takes time and effort, and they are committed to working collaboratively with the counselor to achieve their goals. Also, clients who are respectful of boundaries and they respect professional boundaries and the confidentiality of the therapeutic relationship. They understand the importance of maintaining a respectful and ethical relationship with their counselor.

Solution Focused Brief Treatment

Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) is a therapeutic approach known for its practical and goal-oriented nature. The therapy helps clients shift their focus from problems to solutions. This change in perspective can lead to a sense of empowerment and enable clients to see possibilities for change that they may not have considered before. SFBT can enhance clients' belief in their ability to overcome challenges and achieve their goals, fostering a sense of self-efficacy.
