Are you tired and overwhelmed with trying to be everything to everyone? Did you learn that your worth was attached to how much you did for others, how well you performed, or how well you stayed invisible or silent? While these adaptive survival strategies used to work, they no longer keep you from feeling the hurt you have been trying to escape. For me, the primary goal of therapy is to help people connect to their bodies, access their deepest feelings, their needs and wants, what they stand for, and develop a healthy sense of self, and hold on to that self in the face of social expectations and social pressure. Let's connect… During our initial call, you will have the opportunity to share and ask questions, and I will share a bit about myself to see if we are a good match for each other.
In our work, we learn to touch into your pain without becoming the narrative and then we write a new story. We journey to explore how shame, self-betrayal, defensiveness, imposter syndrome, and procrastination show up in your body, thoughts, feelings, and beliefs. We uncover the internal resources that you already have and develop practices that support your healing and growth.
My work is grounded in polyvagal theory which describes the ways the autonomic nervous system works and its impact on your emotional, mental, and physical health. I prioritize safety and relationships and compassionately help you let go of the need for a different past and learn to accept life as it is.
I am particularly passionate about helping Black women and men over 25 who are navigating life with unresolved emotional and mental pain that couldn’t find a relational home in which it could be held. This pain now shows up in your personal and professional relationships as emotional ups and downs, irritability, anger, sadness, uncontrollable worry, feeling unseen or lost, and sometimes a sense of self-estrangement.
African American/Black adults over 25 who are navigating life with unresolved emotional and mental pain that now impacts their personal and professional relationships. They want to do more than survive and live beyond "struggle" love.
