Hi! My name is Chrissy and I have been practicing since 2016. Being a therapist is something I truly enjoy doing and I find so much meaning in helping others. I graduated with my Masters in Addictions Counseling from Montclair State University. I have worked in various settings, including residential treatment, intensive outpatient (IOP), and outpatient services, where I have gained skills in helping clients with addiction, anxiety, depression, trauma, and mood disorders.
During our first session, my goal is to simply get to know you. I enjoy learning what my clients are interested in and background information about their lives. This helps build therapeutic rapport and will ultimately help us work together to meet your goals.
Besides being empathetic and non-judgmental, I offer the right balance of support and challenge, encouraging clients to confront difficult emotions or behaviors while providing the reassurance and validation they need.
My career has been focused in working with adolescents and adults that are struggling with addiction, depression, anxiety, mood disorders, and trauma. This positions me to offer support to a wide range of clients. I can assist clients that are open to process emotional challenges, develop practical coping tools, and guide them toward achieving greater emotional stability and well-being.
I have worked in multiple care settings, including residential, intensive outpatient (IOP), and outpatient levels, where trauma-informed care was central to my practice. Throughout my career, I've been committed to understanding how trauma affects individuals on both a physiological and psychological level, and I’ve used that understanding to inform my approach to treatment. In my practice, I value safety, both physically and emotionally, in every therapeutic encounter. In all settings, I ensure clients know that they are in control of the pace and direction of their treatment. I also strive to be transparent about the treatment process and consistently demonstrate trustworthiness in all my interactions. I work with clients to ensure they feel empowered in their treatment. This means giving them a voice in the decision-making process and offering choices whenever possible and take any cultural or gender-specific needs into consideration.
Throughout my career, I have also utilized CBT in sessions. I educate and assist clients in recognizing ‘cognitive distortions’ and how they can negatively impact emotional and behavioral responses. I also work with clients in developing incorporate problem-solving skills to empower clients to manage stressors effectively.
