Working together with the child and parent when the child is the client is the best way to achieve their goals in certain cases. Improving that primary relationship helps the child’s mental and emotional health and give the parent coping skills to parent them effectively.
It is very important to be culturally sensitive with clients so they feel comfortable being themselves and can make good progress.
This treatment method is vital for clients who have been through any trauma that continues to affect them.
I use Play therapy often with children. Legos, coloring books and art are great way to get them to open up about difficult topics while playing.
