Ivy Lynn Sheffler-Oidick
Hi! My name is Ivy. I would like to work with you to identify and reach your goals. I want to collaborate with you so you can you feel better and move on in your life. I use strength based treatments believing that you have positive qualities to build on. I like using different therapy modalities to complement evidenced based ones such as: art therapy, mindfulness and body awareness. We can work together to understand what works best for you to develop a trusting and compassionate relationship. Seeking therapy can be a scary decision but you are making the right choice to take the best care of yourself. I would welcome the opportunity to work with you. I am a licensed certified clinical social worker in the State of Maryland. I have been practicing for over 30 years. I have worked in different settings that include: private practice, community mental health agencies, hospitals and public schools. I have worked with ages 5-95 but work primarily with ages 18-85 presently. I enjoy my work and watching people achieve their goals. I have worked with clients around issues of: anxiety, depression, PTSD, grief and loss, sexual identity, relationship issues, family issues, coping with chronic illness and couples concerns.
First session
We will work together to help you identify your strengths and how to apply them to cope and solve problems. You will feel that you have some direction at the end of our sessions. Sometimes I will ask you to consider doing some activity outside of treatment to help you apply what you have learned. I go at your pace as this is your therapy and I believe developing a trusting a relationship is primary.
Strengths
I have been told that I am easy to establish a trusting relationship with. I have worked with all ages but also with people from different backgrounds, types of relationships and socioeconomic living situations. I want to teach practical things you can do to ground yourself and practice skills using behaviors and art. I am accepting and usually pretty informal.
