New to Grow
Hi. I'm Larry, I'm a licensed professional counselor, (LPC). As a professional counselor, I meet clients where they are, offering a nonjudgmental space to explore what brings them to therapy and the changes they hope to make. My approach is grounded in active listening and genuine curiosity, so you feel heard, understood, and respected. With a calm and accepting presence, I aim to foster an environment that feels comfortable and secure—one where meaningful, lasting change and personal growth can unfold.
In our first session, we’ll explore what led you to seek therapy, along with any specific concerns or goals you’d like to focus on. Because this is an intake session, it may feel a bit more structured than typical sessions, as we’ll also review your background, history, and other relevant information to get a fuller picture of your needs. You’ll have the opportunity to ask questions about the process, and we’ll go over important details like confidentiality. This initial meeting is also a chance for us to get to know one another, begin building a sense of trust, and collaborate on a plan for moving forward in a way that feels supportive and clear.
My greatest strengths as a therapist include helping clients gain clarity and direction when things feel confusing or overwhelming. I am a thoughtful and attentive listener, focused on truly understanding each person’s experience. At the same time, I take an outcome-oriented approach, supporting clients in making meaningful, practical changes aligned with their goals. I balance a gentle, compassionate presence with steady encouragement, helping clients feel both supported and motivated as they move toward growth and lasting change.
I work best with clients who are navigating challenges such as depression, anxiety, life transitions, and ongoing stress, as well as concerns related to self-esteem and confidence. Many of my clients come to therapy feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or uncertain about their direction, and are looking for a space to better understand themselves and build more effective ways of coping. I support individuals who are motivated to explore their thoughts and emotions, develop greater self-awareness, and make meaningful changes in their lives. Whether someone is adjusting to a major life shift or seeking to strengthen their sense of self, I aim to provide a collaborative and supportive environment where growth and resilience can take shape.
Acceptance and commitment (ACT)
I utilize Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) to cultivate psychological flexibility—the capacity to remain present with difficult thoughts and emotions without being controlled by them, while taking meaningful action aligned with deeply held values. I help clients accept their inner experiences as natural parts of the human condition, then guide them toward clarifying what truly matters to them. Through this values-oriented approach, clients learn to move toward their chosen directions even in the presence of discomfort, building a life rich with purpose.
Supportive
I utilize supportive therapy to provide a safe, empathetic, and non-judgmental space where clients feel heard and validated. This approach focuses on strengthening the therapeutic alliance to bolster the client's ego functions, enhance coping mechanisms, and restore a sense of stability during times of distress. By offering consistent encouragement, practical problem-solving, and affirmation of the client's strengths, I aim to reduce feelings of isolation and help them navigate immediate challenges while preserving their dignity and self-esteem.
Positive Psychology
I utilize Positive Psychology to shift the therapeutic focus from merely alleviating symptoms to actively cultivating well-being, resilience, and human flourishing. By identifying and leveraging the client's signature strengths, virtues, and moments of flow, we work to build a foundation of positive emotions and meaning. This approach encourages the intentional practice of gratitude, optimism, and engagement, empowering clients to not only recover from distress but to thrive by constructing a life rich in purpose, connection, and satisfaction.
Strength-Based
I utilize a strengths-based approach that shifts the focus from pathology to potential, viewing clients as the experts on their own lives who possess inherent resilience and resources. Rather than defining individuals by their struggles, I collaborate with them to identify and amplify their unique talents, past successes, and supportive networks. By anchoring the therapeutic process in these existing assets, we co-create solutions that build confidence and foster sustainable growth, empowering clients to leverage their own capabilities to navigate challenges and achieve their goals.
Eclectic
I often will utilize an eclectic approach that flexibly integrates techniques from various therapeutic modalities to best meet the unique needs, preferences, and goals of each individual client. Rather than adhering rigidly to a single theoretical framework, I draw upon evidence-based strategies from cognitive behavioral therapy, humanistic approaches, dialectical behavior therapy, solution-focused therapy, and acceptance and commitment therapy as the situation demands. This tailored method allows me to adapt my interventions to the client's evolving journey, ensuring that the therapeutic process remains responsive, practical, and deeply aligned with their specific path toward healing and growth.
