New to Grow
I am a seasoned therapist of 30 years, and open to work with most adult and adolescent clients. I also have specialized training in the area of coparenting after divorce or separation. My work is focused on the needs of my clients, and I draw from a variety of approaches, depending on your specific needs. Personally, I take great pride in my work, but also enjoy the outdoors, live music, and I volunteer with a few nonprofits that promote positive social action. I've been a single parent and am proud of my now adult children, but understand the complex difficulties in raising children on your own.
At our first session, we will explore your goals for counseling, diagnosis framework and challenges you may be experiencing, expectations for the treatment process, and begin to review your relevant history as it pertains to your goals. I offer free telephone consultations, if you would like to talk before scheduling your initial session. I believe the therapeutic relationship is key in the healing process, and I want to be sure that we both feel that we would be well matched, to acheive the best results for you.
I always begin with a client centered approach, to best serve you. I will be your guide through your growth and healing process, using guiding principles of acceptance, honesty, integrity and a non-udgemental attitude. I also use ongoing assessments to provide an objective lens to our work, which offers an objective record of your progress.
Ideal clients come to session with an open and honest attitude. My work is goal oriented, and clients are asked to focus on regular and acheivable goals between sessions, for maximum benefit. Sessions are our "classroom work". What you do between, I consider your "lab for learning" where you can apply new skills and strategies for growth and healing. I ask clients to keep a notebook with their own record of progress, which helps to solidify skills gained and becomes a useful resource for you in your growth and healing journey.
