New to Grow
Alyssa McCormick, a proud Fayetteville NC native, has dedicated her career to enhancing mental health support in underserved communities. After earning her Bachelor of Social Work degree from Fayetteville State University in 2015 and her Master of Social Work degree from Our Lady of the Lake University in 2019, Alyssa became a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. Her passion lies in normalizing therapy within Black and Brown communities, a mission she actively pursues in her dual roles. As a full-time Military Family Life Counselor at Fort Bragg and a part-time Outpatient Therapist, Alyssa provides comprehensive care to a diverse clientele, including children, teens, and adults. Her therapeutic expertise spans individual, group, couple, and family therapy, reflecting her commitment to addressing a wide array of mental health needs. Before she embarked on her journey of becoming a mental health profession, Alyssa was an elementary school teacher and a high school dance and color guard coach. Her therapy style is laid-back, relatable, and collaborative, creating a space where clients can feel comfortable being themselves without fear of judgment. I believe that meaningful growth happens when people feel genuinely heard and understood, so I strive to build authentic connections while bringing warmth, humor, and compassion into the therapeutic process when appropriate. At the same time, I am intentional and goal-oriented in my work. I combine a supportive, conversational approach with evidence-based interventions to help clients gain insight, develop practical coping skills, and make lasting changes.
During our first session, you can expect a relaxed and welcoming conversation focused on getting to know you and understanding what brings you to therapy. We'll discuss your current concerns, relevant personal history, strengths, and what you hope to gain from the therapeutic process. There is no pressure to share everything at once our first meeting is about building comfort, trust, and a foundation for our work together. I'll also answer any questions you have about therapy, explain my approach, and work with you to identify goals that feel meaningful and achievable. My goal is for you to leave the session feeling heard, understood, and with a clearer sense of how we can work together to support your growth and well-being.
I bring a warm, nonjudgmental, and supportive presence to each session, creating a space where clients can feel safe being open and honest about their experiences. I value authenticity and strive to build genuine therapeutic relationships based on trust, respect, and collaboration. My strengths include being an attentive listener, approachable, relatable, and compassionate while also providing practical guidance and evidence-based strategies. I am skilled at helping clients identify patterns, gain insight, and develop effective tools for managing life's challenges. I balance empathy with honest feedback, supporting clients in making meaningful changes at a pace that feels comfortable and achievable for them.
> I am best positioned to serve children, adolescents, adults, couples, and families who are seeking support with anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship challenges, life transitions, behavioral concerns, and stress management. I work well with clients who are motivated to gain insight, develop practical coping skills, strengthen relationships, and create meaningful change in their lives. My approach is collaborative, compassionate, and tailored to each client's unique needs, helping them build resilience, improve emotional well-being, and achieve their personal and therapeutic goals.
I have experience with Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) as a structured, evidence-based treatment approach that helps identify and change unhelpful thought patterns and behaviors. In practice, I use CBT techniques such as cognitive restructuring, thought records, behavioral activation, and goal setting to help individuals develop healthier coping strategies and improve emotional well-being. I also work collaboratively with clients to build self-awareness, challenge negative beliefs, and apply practical skills in their daily lives. I am also trained in Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavior Therapy (TF-CBT).
> I have experience with Child-Parent Psychotherapy (CPP), a relationship-based treatment model designed to support young children and their caregivers following trauma, stress, or disruptions in attachment. In practice, I use CPP principles to strengthen the parent-child relationship, promote emotional regulation, and help families process difficult experiences through play, communication, and reflective interactions. I work collaboratively with caregivers to enhance their understanding of the child's emotional needs and foster a safe, secure, and nurturing environment that supports healthy development.
I have experience providing couples counseling to help partners improve communication, strengthen emotional connection, and navigate relationship challenges. In practice, I use evidence-based interventions to help couples identify unhealthy interaction patterns, develop conflict-resolution skills, and build greater understanding and empathy for one another. I work collaboratively with both partners to establish shared goals, foster trust, and support healthier relationship dynamics.
